Robert T. Walsh, Jr., M.D., age 90, of Basking Ridge, New Jersey, passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 18, 2025, at the Complete Care Nursing Center at Green Knoll in Bridgewater.

Born in Elizabeth on October 27, 1934, to the late Robert T. Walsh, Sr. and Irene Gantert Walsh, Dr. Walsh was raised in Elizabeth and went on to build a life of extraordinary dedication to medicine and service. He also resided in Roselle Park and Westfield before moving to Basking Ridge.

A proud graduate of St. Peter's Prep and St. Peter's College, he earned his Doctor of Medicine from Seton Hall College of Medicine and Dentistry in 1963. Following his internship at the Medical College of Virginia in Richmond, he served his country as a General Medical Officer in the United States Navy from 1964 to 1966. His medical training continued with residencies at Georgetown University Hospital and the New York Eye and Ear Infirmary. Certified by the American Board of Otolaryngology, he also completed a residency in plastic surgery and established a distinguished private practice in Roselle Park and Westfield. He was a Fellow of both the American College of Surgeons and the American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery.

Beyond his private practice, Dr. Walsh dedicated himself to humanitarian work. He volunteered as a physician during the Vietnam War and in later years spent several months in India, performing reconstructive surgeries for children and adults suffering from cleft lips, cleft palates, and severe burn injuries. In makeshift operating rooms with limited supplies, he performed countless life-changing procedures, embodying his belief that a physician's calling extended far beyond borders.

He served as a medical consultant with the State of New Jersey Division of Disabilities prior to his retirement. To further scientific medicine, he donated his body to the Robert Wood Johnson Medical School Anatomical Association.

Outside of medicine, Dr. Walsh enjoyed tennis, camping, fishing, and time spent outdoors. He especially loved the Jersey Shore spending time with friends and family at his home on Long Beach Island.

He was predeceased by his parents and his sister, Irene Walsh Broheimer. Surviving are his sister, Mary Jane Walsh; nieces and nephews, Matthew Gantert Hyland, Philip J. Hyland, Christine Broheimer Materia, and Pamela Broheimer Villareale; and grand-nieces and nephews Paul, Emilia, Samantha, Melissa, Vanessa, Thomas, Grace, and Hallie.

A gathering of family and friends will be held on Saturday, October 11, 2025, from 1:30 to 2:30 PM at Higgins Home for Funerals, 752 Mountain Blvd., Watchung, NJ. Military honors will be rendered at 2:30 PM, immediately followed by a funeral service.
