Robert Wayne Watkins, 52, of Smithfield VA passed away on November 7, 2025 surrounded by the unconditional love of his family and friends after a brief battle with cancer.
Robert was born on June 26, 1973 in Hampton, VA. He is preceded in death by his grandparents Connie and Doyle Watkins.
He is survived by his father and mother in-love David and Susan Sanders, his children Hannah Watkins, Ashley (Brandon) Black, Andrew Moore, Alayna Grace Watkins, Blake Watkins, his grandchildren Amelia Black, Reese Black, Grayson Moore, his sister in-love Shannon Sanders, brother in-love John Sanders and his special cousin Jenna Ross. He also leaves behind his close family Stacy and George Murray and his faithful companion Bear.
Rob grew up in Hampton, VA and served in the United States Marine Corp for 6 years. He gave 25 years of dedicated service to Cox Communications as a Field Network Technician where he was employed upon his passing.
Rob loved hunting, fishing, cheering loudly at his Redskins, baseball, Nascar, and his new found love of anything UNC, thanks to Brandon.
Rob was most proud of being a father to his beautiful daughter Alayna Grace. You could always find him on every sideline, at every practice, or game no matter the sport, cheering on his baby girl. Alayna was the unconditional love he searched for his entire life. He found that in her eyes the very first time he held her in his arms.
Rob loved being surrounded by family and friends and found peace and solace in the laughter shared during the many family gatherings and holidays.
Rob left us far too soon. He is now free from the pain of this world, rejoicing in heaven, and undoubtedly watching over his little girl. How lucky we are to have someone that made saying goodbye so hard.
In accordance with Rob's wishes and to honor his memory, a celebration of his life will be held for family and friends on November 22, 2025 at 2:00 p.m. located at Little's Funeral Home in Smithfield VA. Immediately following there will be a gathering at The Villas of Smithfield, 101 Villa Dr Smithfield, VA.
In lieu of flowers please make donations to GoFundMe established on behalf of his daughter Alayna Grace.
