Robert T. Weber, Sr.

 

 

Robert Theodore Weber died on November 22nd, 2023 at his home in Roy just 3 days before his 91st birthday surrounded by family members including 2 of his grandsons who were online from causes of living a great life. He was born in Caldwell, Kansas to Benjamin Theodore Weber and Grace Evelyn Struble.  

 

His family suffered the loss of the family farm during the “dust bowl” in Kansas and moved to Wyoming. He suffered another loss upon the death of his father in 1944 while serving in the Army during World War II. He endured starting to work at a very young age to help support his mother and the family, including his younger brother Stan. Later, he stopped attending school after the eighth grade to work full-time and help support his family.  

 

He joined the Wyoming National Guard and later was activated to the US Army, training as a tanker at Fort Campbell, KY and later as an army cook. He served very briefly in Korea during the Korean War. When his mother found out he had been sent to Korea, she took it up the chain of command and he was reassigned to Germany having lost his father in war. In Germany he attained the rank of Staff Sergeant before leaving service and returning home to Wyoming. 

 

Following his service in the Army, he became a glazier working in the commercial and auto glass business for nearly 50 years. He started in Commercial glass in Cheyenne later taking a position in Pocatello Idaho. He transferred to Ogden to work for Northern Utah Glass (NUG) in 1968 and retired from NUG in Ogden in 1993. After retirement, he worked a few hours a day for about 10 years in another glass shop.   Despite leaving the ”official” glass business, working with glass never left him, he simply found his creative side.  Bob worked with Bernie Goodwin to design and create “The Chipper.” This tool allowed him to create the hand chipped edges of his picture frames and sun catchers that became the signature of his artistic work. Prior to the 2002 Salt Lake City Winter Olympics, Bob was selected to work on and build the Olympic flame tower that was lit and burned during the Winter Olympic Games. 

 

 He was married to and survived by the love of his life, Yvonne, for 65 years; by his two children, Robert (Bobby) Weber, Jr. (Glenda), and Jennifer Weber Starrett (Mike). Four grandchildren, Monica, Ace’a, Connor, and Cameron. Four great grandchildren and one great grandchild deceased. He is preceded in death by his father, Benjamin, his mother Grace and brother Stanley.

 

Throughout his adult life, Bob was an avid hunter, fisherman and a champion bowler He was a member of the Elks Club for years in the 60s and 70s and Our Savior Lutheran Church soon after moving to Roy 55 years ago (although unable to attend recently due to health issues). He always took great care and pride in his yard and home. If you knew Bob, you know he spoke his mind he was no-nonsense. Friends, family and acquaintances always knew where they stood. His dry wit and willingness to help is what made him endearing. He will be missed by his family and so many friends

 

The family would like to thank Lindquist mortuary in Roy for their kindness, compassion and thoroughness in planning and implementation of his memorial. We would also like to thank Symbii Home Health and Hospice for their compassionate and thorough care of Bob and the family.

 

Bob’s reception will start on Saturday, December 2, 2023 at 1:30pm with the service at 2 pm at Lindquist's Roy Mortuary, 3333 West 5600 South.
