Robert Weindorfer Obituary

Published by Legacy on Apr. 2, 2024.
Robert Joseph Weindorfer, age 81, passed away on March 30, 2024 at Abington Hospital.
He was a long time resident of Cheltenham, PA. Robert was born on December 17, 1942 in Philadelphia, PA to parents, Joseph Weindorfer and Genevieve Weindorfer (nee Graczk). He graduated from Cheltenham High School in 1960. He continued his education, graduating from Drexel University with a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering and a Master's degree in Business Administration. Robert went on to establish a 46 year career as the Director of Nuclear Plant Security and Safety at PECO, and also served as the Safety Director for PGW. In addition, Robert served in the Navy.
Robert was a founding member and President of Delta Sigma Phi Fraternity (Gamma Chi Chapter) at Drexel University. He made many life-long friends during his time at Drexel. Robert was a member of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers, American Gas Association, and EEI. He also served as chairman of the Energy Association of Pennsylvania Safety Committee.
Robert loved sports and was a big Phillies and Eagles fan. He participated in many sports, from running track in high school, to playing in rec volleyball and softball leagues with friends for decades, to playing tennis and golf in recent years. He coached his son and daughter in multiple sports throughout their childhoods, including at the Cheltenham Athletic Association Little League (served as commissioner) and formed the Cheltenham Jayvees Youth Association Basketball League.
Robert's most joyous sports moments were teaching and watching his children and his grandchildren play sports. In recent years, he could often be found sitting on the sidelines or in the stands, keeping a scorebook, running stats, and cheering on his grandchildren in tennis, soccer, softball, baseball, basketball, volleyball, and swimming. Sports provided a deep connection between him and his loved ones.
Robert's friends were extremely important to him and he would do anything to help a friend out. He had many life-long friends that he went out of his way to support in difficult times and celebrate life with in good times. More than anything though, Robert was a true family man and devoted his life to his family. Eileen, Len and Kim were his world until his world grew with the addition of his five grandchildren. Robert made it a mission to be a part of every big and small moment in his grandchildren's lives and they all have learned so much from him.
Robert was preceded in death by his parents Joseph and Genevieve Weindorfer. Robert is survived by his wife Eileen, son Leonard, daughter Kimberly (Small), daughter-in-law Kristin Weindorfer, son-in-law Chad Small, his grandchildren Jason, Kameryn, Kaitlyn, Madison, and Jack, sister-in-law Doris Hoffmaster, and nephew Andrew Hoffmaster.
