Robert Lynn Wheatley, 67 of Jacksonville, passed away Monday, December 15, 2025, at St. John's Hospital in Springfield. He was born October 1, 1958, in Jacksonville the son of Orville Sr. and Retha (Retzer) Wheatley. He married Karla Collison on June 14, 1997, and she survives.
He is also survived by two brothers, Orville (Marla) Wheatley Jr. of Jacksonville and Donal (Lora) Wheatley of Murrayville; two sisters, Wanda Adams and Marla Wheatley both of Jacksonville; nieces and nephews, Eric Neunaber, Chris (Annie) Wheatley, David (Joanna) Luttrell, Marc (Erin) Luttrell, Sheri (Larry) Harris, Lisa (Benjamin) Hughes, Kristi (Zach Stenemeyer) Luttrell, Pamela Wheatley, Kimberly Wheatley, Theresa Wheatley, Sylvia (Mike) Woolfolk, Bryan (Leah) Wheatley, and Mike Beddingfield; and many great nieces, great nephews, and cousins that he loved.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Diana (surviving husband Dale) Luttrell, and two nephews, Robert (surviving wife Theresa) Luttrell and Jason Luttrell.
Robert graduated from Jacksonville High School in 1977. He began his working career at Norris Hospital cafeteria in 1976 before becoming a Plant Engineer at Passavant Area Hospital where he worked until retirement. He had such fond memories of the people he had worked with at Passavant.
You could often find Robert in the mornings at Hardee's or the Olive Branch, enjoying himself while socializing and sharing stories.
Robert loved spending his time trapshooting, traveling, and with his dogs-especially Spike. He was also very proud of his bus and his truck.
No services will be held at this time. Memorials are suggested to PAWS. The Williamson Funeral Home in Jacksonville is assisting the family. Condolences may be left online at www.airsman-hires.com.
