Pastor Robert C. "Bob" Wilkins, age 69, of Darlington, WI, was called to his heavenly home on Sunday, November 17, 2024, at his residence surrounded by the love and peace he so faithfully preached. He was born August 1, 1955, in Tampa, FL, where he spent his early childhood. The family then moved to Northern California where he lived until his sense of adventure led him to run away with the carnival. Bob then enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, rising to the rank of Sergeant, with stations in California and Japan. Upon his honorable discharge, Bob returned to California for school and work in various fields, including managing small hotels. He then became a journeyman in the flooring trade.
Later in life, Bob was called to Divinity School. It was there that he felt the divine peace and love that would define his life's work. He said: "I felt the peace and love of God from my first sermon." With his ordination, Bob began a dedicated journey of faith in southern Indiana, before answering the call to serve at the Immanuel United Church of Christ in Darlington.
Throughout his life, music was a constant companion and major influence. He enjoyed listening to many genres, as well as writing and performing his own work on guitar.
Bob was proud to be a member of the American Legion, both in Indiana and Darlington. His service did not end with his military career; as Chaplin and a member of the Color Guard, he continued to honor his fellow servicemen and women. Bob volunteered in many community projects with the Legion and especially enjoyed being a legion motorcycle rider.
Bob is survived by his wife of 25 years, Donna Wood at home; brothers: Bruce (Sandy) Wilkins of Fairfax, CA, and David (Jennifer) Buol of Petaluma, CA; and sisters: Karen (Hank) Corda and Tracy (Jason) Lyman both of Petaluma, CA. Not blessed with children, Bob did love his dogs very much and rescued 2 abandoned pups, but more than that he enjoyed being "Crazy Uncle Bob" to his nieces and nephews: Jerrimy, Justin, Dylan, Marc, Jonathan, Joshua, Jackson, Jacob, Amanda, Marisa, Ana, Kristin, and Lauren, and a great-nephew and niece: Jordan and Avielle. He was preceded in death by his mother: Marion Buol; stepfather: Don Buol; and one brother: Paul Hall in infancy.
A memorial service will be held Friday, November 22, 2024, at 11:00 A.M. at Immanuel United Church of Christ (339 E. Louisa St., Darlington) with Bob's friend, Pastor Norris Keirn officiating. Military rites will be accorded by Bates-O'Brien-Howe-Wiegel-Roelli American Legion Post #214 following the service. A visitation will be held Friday, November 22, 2024, from 10:00 A.M. until the time of services at the church. The Erickson Funeral Home in Darlington is serving the family. Online condolences may be expressed to the family at www.ericksonfuneralhome.com.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to IUCC Church in Darlington, Wisconsin. (339 East Louisa St. Darlington, WI. 53530)
