Robert “Rob” J. Wilson, age 58, of Ripon, WI, passed away on Monday, November 25, 2024 at his home surrounded by his loving family.
Rob was born on September 23, 1966 in Wild Rose, WI, son of Brian Wilson and Kathleen (Jones) Akowski. He graduated from Ripon High School and went on to serve our country in the U.S. Marine Corps for 12 years. He earned the rank of Lance Corporal with 3 stars and 7 medals of honor. After serving in the Marines he worked for Barr, Inc. in Oshkosh, WI. In 1998 he married Cherrie Hopp at the Bethel Reformed Church in Brandon, WI. Rob loved to fish, and he cherished his two trips a year with Cherrie to the cabin to get away, unwind, unplug, and fish. He also enjoyed sports cars, especially his 2018 Dodge Challenger.
Rob is survived by his wife, Cherrie Wilson of Ripon, WI; children, Natasha (Eric) Sutton, Savannah (Troy) McMillen, Keagan Wilson, Bethany (James) Rice, and Darren (special friend, Lacey) Wilson; grandchildren, Payten Kemp, Harleyana Wilson, and Landon and James Rice; his father, Brian Wilson; siblings, Dave Wilson, Scott (Kathy) Wilson, Teresa (Dave) Brinkman, Kelly (Elizabeth) Wilson, Amy (John) Krause, Kip (Becky) Klawitter, and Melissa (Dan) Fell; several nieces and nephews; his special little dogs, Millie and Maggie Mae; in-laws, Val (Bruce) VandeZande, Steve (Shelley) Hopp, Jeff (Julie) Hopp; mother-in-law, Annette Hopp; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Kathleen Akowski; a brother, Mike Klawitter; maternal and paternal grandparents; step-mother, Carol Wilson; brother-in-law, Randy Hopp; and father-in-law, Howard Hopp.
Visitation for Rob will be held from 4:00 pm until 7:00 pm on Friday, November 29, 2024 at Butzin-Marchant Funeral Home, 515 Mayparty Dr., Ripon, WI 54971, and again from 10:00 am until 11:00 am on Saturday, November 30, 2024 also at the funeral home.
Funeral service for Rob will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, November 30, 2024 at Butzin-Marchant Funeral Home in Ripon, with Rev. Donald Deike officiating. Interment will follow at Alto Cemetery, Alto, WI, with a final salute and full military honors. A memorial is being established in his name.
Rob’s family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the ThedaCare Cancer Center in Berlin and Oshkosh for their amazing care. Also, a big thank you to the ThedaCare Hospice Team for their wonderful care at the end.
