Robert Michael 'Tank' Wilson, age 72, of Grove Hill, Alabama, passed away peacefully on August 21, 2025. Born on December 25, 1952, he lived a life rich with purpose, love, and dedication. Robert was a beloved husband, father, granddaddy, son, brother, and friend. He leaves behind his cherished wife, Kimberly Wilson, with whom he shared 16 wonderful years of marriage.

A proud veteran, Robert, served in the National Guard for 11 years, showcasing his unwavering commitment to his country. In 1984, he made significant contributions to his community by establishing the Salipta Fire Department alongside his late friends, Jr. and Steve Shoultz, serving until 1992. He continued his legacy of service by joining the Hellwestern Fire Department, where he dedicated 12 years as chief until his retirement, embodying the bravery and spirit of a true firefighter.

Raised in Union Baptist Church, Robert accepted the Lord at an early age. Throughout his life, he attended several churches in the area but ultimately found his true home at Antioch Baptist Church, where he nurtured his faith and generously shared his love with others.

An avid outdoorsman, Robert found joy in hunting and fishing, often taking the time to appreciate the beauty of nature and the wildlife surrounding him. He was affectionately known as "Chicken Man" by three of his grandchildren, a name he earned through his numerous chickens and sense of humor.

Robert enjoyed a fulfilling career with the Clarke County Commissioners' Office, retiring after 19 years of dedicated service. Known for his strong character, Robert was nicknamed "Tank" during his time at Grove Hill Academy, a testament to his tenacity and strength on the football field, as noted by Richard Byrd.

Robert is preceded in death by his father Earl Wilson, Jr., brother Gary Wilson, parents-in-law Shorty and Martha Harrell, brother-in-law Scotty Harrell.

He is survived by his wife Kimberly Wilson, mother Eloise Wilson, daughters Dana (Daniel) Jordan, Kelly (Adam) Holder, Kayla Wade and Grant Odom; grandchildren, LeAnn Walker, DeAnn Walker, Emma Reece Wilson, Mason Beckham, Adalyn Wade, Elroy Wade, Ella Wade, Mattie Odom, and Ava Grace Odom; great grandchildren Grayson Walker and Lillian Jordan; Sister Peggy (James) Johnson; brother Danny Wilson; Sister-in-law Teresa (Micheal) Badonsky; best friends Donald Jackson and Eric and Flecka Walker, and bonus son Sherwin "Tank" Parker.

Pallbearers will be Sherwin "Tank" Parker, Eric Walker, Darren Henson, Jonathan McClendon, Mitchell Finney, Keith Newton, Justin Etheridge, and Roy Waite.

Honorary pallbearers are Bill Pearce, Ward Edge, Grady Wilkerson, Joe Pugh, Garry Parden, James McClain, and all firefighters that served with him.

As we gather to celebrate Robert's remarkable life, a public visitation will be held at Lathan Funeral Home on August 25, 2025, from 1 PM to 3 PM, with Bro. Claude Agee and Bro. Danny Chancey followed by a funeral service at 3 PM. Directed by Lathan Funeral Home. A graveside service will take place at Antioch Baptist Church Cemetery at 3:45 PM, where we will lay him to rest.
