Robert Ernest Winfrey, a beacon of love and wisdom, concluded his earthly journey on June 23, 2025, after a valiant battle with a lengthy illness. Born in the warm heart of Memphis, Tennessee, on June 28, 1950, Robert's life was a tapestry of achievement, service, and profound humanity.
Robert's academic pursuits were nothing short of extraordinary. With a Juris Doctorate Law degree from Campbell University and a Divinity degree from Harvard University, he was a man of both legal acumen and spiritual depth. For over three decades, Robert served the community as a dedicated Attorney at Law, bringing justice and counsel to those in need. His passion for knowledge and mentorship led him to the noble profession of a university professor, where he inspired countless students to reach for their highest potential.
His service to the nation was marked by his time in the Vietnam War, where he served as a tele-communicator and electrician. Notably recognized as an Expert Shooter, Robert's military achievements were a testament to his discipline and dedication-a thread that ran through every aspect of his life.
Robert was a spiritual man who found solace and strength in his beliefs. His spiritual nature was the compass that guided him through life's challenges and triumphs. His love for jazz music, the tranquility of the mountains, and the serenity of nature were the simple pleasures that brought joy to his heart. An avid reader, writer, and researcher, Robert's hobbies were a reflection of his unquenchable thirst for knowledge and understanding.
Family was the cornerstone of Robert's life. Though preceded in death by his son, Rakein A. Winfrey, the bond they shared remains unbroken, a testament to the enduring strength of love. He is survived by his loving daughter, Shaneesha Winfrey Jackson, and her husband Timothy Jackson III; his son, Dashaun K. Winfrey; his daughter, Naomi R. Winfrey, and her husband Brennan Rowell. His legacy continues through his grandchildren, Ciera Winfrey, Nashaun Rowell, Malyk Rowell, and great-grandson, Alonzo Allen Jr.
Robert was a man who could best be described with words such as intelligent, loving, and wise. He possessed a rare combination of intellect and empathy that made him a guiding light in the lives of all who knew him. His life was a reflection of his values-a life well-lived, filled with purpose and generosity.
