Robert Hobson Wray, Sr. passed away on July 17, 2025, in Tallahassee, Florida. Born August 2,1939, in Memphis, Tennessee, to parents Colie & Edith Wray. Robert graduated from Messick High School, Memphis, Tennessee, in 1957, where he participated in ROTC. He went on to join the Army, attend Memphis State University for undergraduate studies, and attain his medical degree in 1963 from the University of Tennessee. He later interned at Baptist Hospital in Pensacola, Florida, and then worked as a doctor in the school infirmary at the University of Florida in Gainesville. He moved to Topeka, Kansas, to take on a residency in psychiatry at the Menninger Foundation. At the conclusion of that residency, he and his family moved to Tallahassee, Florida, where he later attained his Juris Doctorate from Florida State University. During his time in Tallahassee, Robert had a private psychiatric practice through which he held counseling sessions and provided his expert services as a forensic psychiatrist. Robert was active with the American Legion in Tallahassee, serving for many years as the Chaplin, and enjoying social activities in addition to regularly participating in ballroom dancing. For many years, he was an active member at Faith Presbyterian Church, volunteering and, at times, serving in various leadership roles. He attended various Bible study groups with friends and fellow churchgoers. Predeceased by his parents, sister, Carolyn France, cousin, Daniel Wray (Elizabeth), and niece, Carla Johnston, Robert leaves behind his three children, Robert H. Wray, Jr., (Debbie), Linda Kathryn Wray (Jim), David B. Wray (Andrea), Grandchildren Kyle B. Wray (Kayla), C. Kacelle Wray, Zachary Baker (Brianna), Bailey Wray, great grandchildren Halle and Hunter Wray, along with nephew, Ronald Mendenhall, niece, Teresa Padgitt, other family, Elizabeth Wray and her children, Catherine Morahan, Jennifer Wray, James Wray, and dear friend and companion, Bernice Fowler. A memorial service will be held September 5, 2025, at Faith Presbyterian Church, starting at 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to the American Legion, Sauls-Bridges Post 13 of Tallahassee, are encouraged: https://buy.stripe.com/14k3g24j8baTbrW3ce Rocky Bevis and Niki Carney of Bevis Funeral Home (850-385-2193 or www.bevisfh.com) are assisting with arrangements.
