Robert J. Writtenberry, age 83, of Gasburg, VA, passed away Monday, December 2, 2024 at his home.
Mr. Writtenberry was preceded in death by his parents, Robert L. and Louise Weaver Writtenberry; his wife, Hazel Lee Writtenberry; a brother, Charlie Writtenberry; and a sister, Shirley Doyle.
Mr. Writtenberry, better known as “Lightnin” retired from VDOT after 28 years of service. He was well known for his carpentry and automobile painting skills. He was the owner of Writtenberry’s Used Cars since 1971, and was a Ford man, through and through, and if you cut him, he’d bleed blue. He and his wife, Hazel, ran Writtenberry’s Grocery for more than 20 years which was a popular hangout spot where friends and family would gather on the weekend to socialize.
He is survived by his children, Stacy Lee Writtenberry and Kent Writtenberry (Kimberly Stagg); a grandson, A.J. Writtenberry and his mother Darlene; a brother, Jessie “Cha Cha” Writtenberry; sister-in-law, Alease Spence; his beloved dog, Missy, devoted friends, Steven O’Donnell and Julia Clary, as well as several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday, December 5, 2024 at Williams Funeral Home in Lawrenceville, VA. The funeral service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday at Pleasant Hill Christian Church in Gasburg, VA followed by interment in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery.
