Robert Francis Zanca, of Brockton, formerly of Braintree, known affectionately to friends and family as Bob, passed away suddenly, on the 29th of April, 2025, at the age of 84. Born on June 10th, 1940, in Boston, Bob was the cherished son of the late Frank and Margaret (Kirkaldy) Zanca. His life was marked by dedication to his family, service to his country, and a warm-hearted presence that deeply touched all who knew him.
Bob graduated from Braintree High School and he furthered his education by earning an associate's degree in business from Northeastern University, demonstrating his commitment to personal and professional growth. His academic achievements laid a strong foundation for the education he provided to his children - all of whom went on to obtain further education.
He proudly served his country in the United States Army, a period of his life that instilled in him a sense of discipline and pride that he carried into his civilian life. After his service, Bob embarked on a successful career with Delta Airlines, where he served as a manager for over 30 years. His dedication and work ethic made him a respected figure amongst his colleagues and within the industry.
Beyond his professional life, Bob was deeply involved in his community. He shared his love of baseball as a coach and umpire for Legion Baseball in Braintree, influencing many young athletes with his sportsmanship and kindness. His commitment to education and the well-being of his community was evident in his service as a former member of the Town of Braintree School Committee. Bob's civic engagement reflected his belief in giving back and making a difference in the lives of others.
Bob's life was rich with love and companionship. He was the former husband of the late Judith Zanca and Mary Zanca, and found companionship and joy with his loving partner, Libby Bragel of Brockton. He was a loving father of Joseph Zanca and his wife Lisa of Braintree, Barbara Mitchell and her husband Doug of Rockland, Thomas Zanca and his wife Kristin of Oklahoma, and Joanne Zanca of Braintree. He was also the devoted brother of Richard Zanca and his wife Paula of Bridgewater.
The title of "GG" was one Bob wore with the utmost pride, as he was the cherished grandfather to 17 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. His love and guidance were a beacon that will continue to shine in their lives. Bob's extended family, including many nieces, nephews, and friends, will remember him as a kind and friendly presence, always ready with a smile and support.
Bob's interests and hobbies were a reflection of his love for life and people. He enjoyed spending quality time with his family and friends, and his memory will be treasured in the hearts of those he leaves behind.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend visiting hours on Sunday, May 4th, from 3:00 – 6:00 PM in the Cartwright-Venuti Funeral Home, 845 Washington St., Braintree. Bob we were not very close as school mates; we both went off in separate directions, as do most people in life. each person must find his or her calling. Thank you for your service and REST IN PEACE.
