Obituary published on Legacy.com by Lampe & Powers Funeral Home - Lake City on Dec. 5, 2025.
Robert "Bob" G. Zech, age 84, of Sun City, AZ, passed away Monday, November 24, 2025. Services are currently pending.

Robert Gene Zech was born August 23, 1941, at the family farm in Mallard, IA. He was the son of Edna (Niemand) Zech and Arnold Zech. While there were many chores on the farm, he enjoyed working with the livestock the most.

Bob graduated from Mallard HS in 1959. He continued his education in business school with focus on accounting. Bob joined the Army August 5, 1963, serving 3 years, with an additional 3 years in USAR.

On July 8, 1967, Bob was united in marriage to Kathy Kenne. Bob and Kathy lived in Omaha, NE after marriage, raising 4 children. Bob worked his entire career with Union Pacific Railroad in the accounting / banking department. He took on various part time jobs over the years as well, providing for his family. He was an example of how hard work pays off and always took his family on a summer vacation. He enjoyed gardening in the spring and summer, and doing the yearly March of Dimes campaign in memory of his Mom.

Bob retired in August of 2002 and he and Kathy moved to Sun City, AZ. He never regretted leaving behind the cold and snow. He loved the heat! Bob continued to work part time for many years with the rec. centers in Sun City, and volunteered with Sun City Prides in keeping the streets clean and beautiful. He enjoyed walking in the pool for his exercise, reading and playing solitaire. Bob and Kathy enjoyed many trips in retirement and loved the cruise life.

Survivors include his children, Daryl (Sherri) Zech of Waverly, IA; Lisa (Jack) Edelen of Glendale, AZ; James (Connie) Zech of Mesa, AZ; and Angela (Rick) Blakey of Maricopa, AZ. Grandchildren, Ashley (Jordan) Shannon, Andrew Zech, Rimiere Blakey, Breann, Aubree, and Tyler Zech. Great grandson, Weston.

Bob was preceded in death by his wife, Kathy A Zech; his parents Edna Niemand Zech and Arnold Zech; siblings, Bill Zech, Janet Whitfield, Donna Hull, and George Zech.

In lieu of flowers, please donate to Hospice of the Valley (Thunderbird Inpatient Care Home) in Bob's name (Robert G. Zech).
