Robert William Zeplin

Robert William Zeplin, 91, of Tamaqua, passed away on Sunday, Feb. 11, 2024, in the care of his loving family while a guest at Mapleshade Meadows, Nesquehoning.

Born on Saturday, Sept. 3, 1932, he was a son of the late Arthur and Martha (Kleinhagen) Zeplin.

Bob was predeceased by his beloved wife of 62 years, Anne H. (McGroarty) Zeplin, who died on Dec. 29, 2023; a son-in law, Jason Lee Frohnheiser; and three sisters, Jane Williams, Doris Kurtz and Gladys Linkhorst.

A 1950 graduate of Tamaqua Area High School, Bob honorably served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War.

He retired from the Atlas Powder Company, where he worked as a mechanic for 32 years.

He was a member of St. John XXIII Roman Catholic Church, Tamaqua.

Bob was an active part of the Tamaqua community as a member of the East End Fire Company and a long-time coach in the Tamaqua Baseball Association. He was an avid sports fan and enjoyed watching the Philadelphia Phillies, Penn State football, college basketball, and particularly all of the local games for his grandchildren.

Surviving are daughters, Theresa M., wife of Gene Brode of Tamaqua, and Anne Frohnheiser, both of Tamaqua, Debra Moyer of Pottsville and Chrisanne, wife of John Seguin; a son, Robert A. Zeplin, and his wife, Lorna, of Deer Lake; a brother, David Zeplin, and his wife, Jean; 11 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

The family would like to thank the staff of Mapleshade Meadows for providing such peace of mind over the last year and extending such care and kindness.

Service: Mass of Christian Burial noon Saturday, Feb. 17, St. John XXIII Roman Catholic Church, 307 Pine St., Tamaqua. Interment, St. Jerome Cemetery, Tamaqua. Call 10:30 a.m.-noon Saturday in the church hall. Services have been entrusted to the E. Franklin Griffiths Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 655 E. Broad St., Tamaqua. In lieu of flowers, contributions in his name may be made to the Tamaqua Little League, c/o Bill Angst, 986 Catawissa Road, Tamaqua, PA 18252. I would like the Zeplin family to know that Mr. Zeplin was a co-worker to my father for over 30 years at the Atlas Powder Company. They were both hard workers!
