Roberta Evelyn Charles, of Rolla, Mo passed away peacefully on September 2, 2025, just shy of her 97th birthday. Roberta was born September 6th, 1928, in rural Phelps County, Missouri, to the late Robert and Nora (Phariss) Whitaker. Roberta graduated from Rolla High School in 1946 and from there went to work at the University of Rolla (Rolla School of Mines) in their accounting department. She worked there for many years until her retirement in 1970. Accounting/Bookkeeping was a passion of hers and for years she helped count the offerings at the First United Methodist Church of Rolla. On October 15th, 1960, she married the love of her life, Roy Charles, of Rolla. They enjoyed almost 48 years of marriage prior to his death on April 17th, 2008. She and Roy were involved in many local organizations due to his employment at US Bank and enjoyed traveling with their many friends. They often met with several local "Rolla Grads" and had a monthly luncheon call Class Luncheon, and she kept up with this tradition after his death. She enjoyed these events. Roberta spent her years after Roy's passing living in the Wellington Community here in Rolla and enjoyed participating in activities while making many friends there. She kept up with current events until her passing and was an avid watcher of multiple news programs daily until her death. She was also a big game show watcher, and The Price is Right was a daily favorite. Roberta was a lifelong member of the First United Methodist Church of Rolla. She not only enjoyed her deep faith but also was a member of the United Methodist Women's group which did many philanthropic things for the Church and community. Roberts will be remembered for her faith, gentle spirit and quiet soul by those who were blessed enough to have known her. She is survived by her "niece" Linda Batley Pietsch (Gerald) of Rolla that was a relative by marriage but became her constant over the last several years. Linda was devoted to her care and comfort and will miss her deeply. She is also survived by Carolyn Pietsch Henderson (Don) of Marco Island, Florida, Linda Jackson Pietsch (Ervin) of Fort Worth, Texas and Ken Pietsch of Rolla. She is survived by numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and many dear friends, including Kelly Adams Rustemeyer (John) and Steve Adams (Kim). Memorials are suggested to the Thomas Fairview Cemetery here in Rolla. There will be memorial cards at all James & Gahr locations.
