Roberta H. Hammaker Lightner, of Duncannon, passed away peacefully on November 20, 2025, in the arms of her daughter, at the Bridges at Bent Creek in Mechanicsburg at the age of 84.
Born on February 9, 1941, in Duncannon, she was a daughter of the late Robert R. and Florence K. (Shibley) Hoffman. Roberta was lovingly raised by her late grandmother, Frances J. (Baker) Hoffman. Her life story continued alongside her late husbands, Ray L. "Bucky" Lightner and Russell E. "Butch" Hammaker.
A 1959 graduate of Susquenita High School, Roberta worked in the banking industry for several years prior to her retirement from Orrstown Bank. Her commitment to the community was evident through her active participation in the Duncannon Presbyterian Church as a life member, where she served with devotion until her health began to decline. Roberta's involvement with the Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts, and Girl Scouts as a Den Leader and Council Member demonstrated her belief in the importance of guiding young lives. Additionally, her membership in the Red Hat Society showcased her vibrant spirit and love for friendship.
Her hands, ever skilled and creative, were often busy with crochet hooks and quilting needles. Many of her beautiful creations graced the Perry County Fair, where they were admired by all. Roberta's passion for shopping and her collection of lovely shoes was a testament to her impeccable taste and zest for life. Above all, Roberta's heart belonged to her family. She was the matriarch who created a nurturing home that was a haven of love and support. Her devotion to her family was unwavering, and her presence was a source of comfort and strength. Her life was a portrait of love in action, and the memories she leaves behind will continue to inspire and guide her loved ones.
Roberta is survived by her sons, David, Duane, and Thomas Hammaker, and her daughter, Jane Hammaker, as well as by her stepsons, Scott and Mark Lightner. Roberta's life was further enriched by the laughter and joy of her 11 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, and five great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her brothers, Tom, Bob, and Jim Hoffman. In addition to her husbands and parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, John Hoffman; sister, Charmaine "Wink" Grubb; and stepmother, Gladys I. (Sands) Hoffman.
Relatives and friends are invited to join the family for her viewing from 1:00 to 2:00 P.M. on Wednesday November 26, 2025 at the Ronald C.L. Smith Funeral Home, 325 N. High Street, Duncannon, followed by her funeral service at 2:00 P.M. with Jim Hoffman, officiating. Interment will be in Union Cemetery, Duncannon.
