Roberta O'Driscoll McCarrey

Roberta O'Driscoll McCarrey died peacefully with family by her side, on August 3rd, 2023, in Layton, Utah at the age of ninety-one. The third daughter and sixth of nine children of Cornelius James O'Driscoll and Mary Emeline Janes, Roberta was born May 10th, 1932, in Hayden, Utah. Her early years were spent in Duchesne, Utah. During high school she lived with extended family in Park City, Utah and in Boulder City, Nevada. While in high school she was offered a full-ride scholarship for nursing school at St. Marks Hospital in Salt Lake City. Upon graduation she worked as a nurse and later in many supervisory positions. She kept her nursing license active until the age of eighty. She wanted to be ready to help if ever there was an emergency in the community.
    While working at the Logan hospital, she met her future husband while attending to his family. She married Leon Rasmussen McCarrey in the Logan LDS Temple and they became the parents of five children. Roberta helped Leon get his advanced degrees, including his doctorate at the University of Oregon. They moved back to Utah where she worked in Logan and later at the Dee Hospital in Ogden. As he worked in higher-education administration, her career paralleled his. Based on her previous experience, she was invited to join the faculty at Weber State College, where she ran the nursing lab for seventeen years. While working full time and raising her family, Roberta completed a second bachelor's degree at Weber State in gerentology and sociology. 
    Roberta was a lifelong member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She served in various callings, including as an ordinance worker at the Bountiful temple, as president and teacher of each auxiliary at the ward level, and later served a humanitarian mission with her beloved husband Leon, in Bogor, Indonesia where she taught neonatal care and English as a second language.
    Preceded in death by her husband of sixty-six years as well as her parents and siblings, Roberta is survived by daughters Shannan and Cheryl, sons Cordell (Laura), John (Debbie), and Scott (Stacy), fifteen grandchildren, nineteen great-grandchildren, and her sister-in-law, LuR Robbins. 
    There will be a private viewing for family members. A graveside service will be held in Cache Valley, Utah. The family would like to extend a special thank-you to the workers at Fairfield Village.
