Virginia "Gini" McCarrey, 98, of Centralia, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 17, 2024.
She was born September 15, 1926 in Ashmore, Illinois, the daughter of Glenn Lowry and Lola (Archer) Lowry. On November 2, 1952, she married F. "Gene" McCarrey and he preceded her in death on April 7, 2019.
Left to mourn her passing are her two children: Miriam Furlong and husband Bobby and Douglas McCarrey both of Centralia; seven grandchildren: Jennifer McCarrey, David McCarrey and wife Casey, Sara McCarrey, Heather Beal, Haley Wisniewski and husband Jason, Lindsay Wilson and husband Josh, and Drew Furlong and wife Amanda; and twelve great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents: Glenn and Lola Lowry, husband: F. "Gene" McCarrey, her son: Bill McCarrey and sister: Carolyn Taylor.
Gini was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Centralia and the Crusaders Sunday School Class. She also enjoyed helping with wedding receptions and funeral dinners at the church. She was a member of the Beta Sigma Phi.
Gini loved playing a hand of pinochle with her friends. She was an avid Chicago Cubs Fan. Gini cherished the time she spent with her family, grandkids and great-grandkids and making wonderful memories throughout the years.
Per Gini's wishes, cremation rites will be accorded and a Graveside Service will be held Monday, September 23, 2024 at 2:00 PM at the Hillcrest Lakeside Mausoleum Chapel in Centralia. Entombment will follow in the Hillcrest Lakeside Mausoleum. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Donor's Choice and will be accepted at the Sutherland-Garnier Funeral Home at 235 North Sycamore Street Centralia, Illinois 62801, (618)532-3523, who is honored to be of service to Gini's Family.
