Lorren Abernathy Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Regency Mortuary - Sun City on Jan. 30, 2026.
Lorren E. Abernathy, 78, of Buckeye, AZ, went to his eternal resting place Monday, January 26, 2026, at Banner Boswell Hospital in Sun City, AZ, in the loving arms of his wife and daughter. He was born November 12, 1947, in Centralia, IL., the son of William H. and Evelyn Abernathy (Haake). He married Rose Ann Sanders on September 25, 1971, at St. Peter's United Church of Christ of Centralia and she survives him.

In addition to his wife Rose Ann, he is survived by a daughter: Tracy Abernathy and significant other James Lee and granddog Sadie of St. Louis, MO; brother and sister in laws: Marsha Abernathy, David Sanders and Sharon, Paul Sanders and Cindy, Mary Jane Jones, Diana Brinkmann and Larry, Teena Sanders and Tammy; nephews and nieces: Michael Abernathy and Kathy, Teresa Haake and Denny, Michael Sanders, Derek Sanders and Crystal, Jason Sanders, Zach Sanders, Tim Jones and Jennifer, Catherine Taylor and David, Carolyn Banik and Will, Travis Brinkmann, Paige Timmerman and Jake, Josh Mueller and Danielle, and Casey Mueller.

He was preceded in death by his parents and stepfather Paul Haake; brother Dennis Abernathy; grandparents Gerhardt and Bertha Sprehe and Luther and Anna Abernathy; father and mother-in-law Howard and Regina Sanders.

Lorren graduated from Centralia Township High School in the Class of 1965, where he was known as the anchor that kept friendships alive, tirelessly organizing class reunions that brought together old friends and cherished memories. His educational journey began at Trinity Lutheran School, where he also remained an involved member of Trinity Lutheran Church throughout his life.

His commitment to service was evident as he proudly served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War, embodying a spirit of courage and dedication as a Vietnam Veteran. After Lorren's time in the military, he concluded his employment history by retiring from Walgreens in 2016.

Lorren's interests extended beyond his professional life. He was an avid golfer who relished the opportunity to spend time on the greens. A true sports enthusiast, there wasn't a weekend that went by without him tuning in to the latest games. His family and friends often referred to him as the tour guide, as he took great pleasure in planning excursions and dinners, ensuring that memories were made and bonds were strengthened.

Although Lorren is no longer with us, his spirit and love will remain in the hearts of all who knew him. He cherished his family deeply, and his legacy will continue to resonate through their shared experiences and the stories they hold dear.

A Memorial Service for Lorren Abernathy will be held on Saturday, April 25, 2026, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Centralia, IL, from 10am-12pm with Pastor Hennig officiating a eulogy at 11:30am. Following the service will be a Celebration of Life at the American Legion with a luncheon and concluding with a musical tribute by Alan Presswood and Mark Sharp.
