Roberta Wend 86 years of age passed peacefully and lovingly in the arms of her husband Frank and daughter Deborah on May 25, 2024.
Roberta was born May 13, 1938 in Detroit, MI to the late Anthony and Sophie Nakielski. She was an only child, but grew up surrounded by cousins who were like siblings. She graduated from St Hedwig Catholic High School and went right to work, finishing out her career at Oakwood Hospital in Community Health and Education as an Administrative Assistant.
Roberta met the love of her life Frank Wend at a wedding and this year marks their 65th anniversary together. Loving and devoted mother of Deborah and the late Donald. She was so proud of them and all of their accomplishments. Mom was very involved in their lives, and made sure they knew every single day how much they were loved and adored. She attended all of their events and cheered them on from the stands and in life.
Roberta's love of dancing led her to start her own dance company - The Mazurka Dancers. She taught Polish, tap, and jazz for over 25 years. She held many recitals that received standing ovations with people yearning for more. Roberta continued her love of dance throughout her life with exercise which eventually led her to Zumba. She met a group of ladies that are proudly called the PITA's. The love and friendship that she shared was so touching and priceless. Roberta exercised 4x a week until last September. Most were amazed at how strong and healthy she was keeping up with the 30 yr olds, she was often called a little spitfire.
Roberta also had a love of golf. She started golf as a way to be with her husband more and ended up being just as good if not better than him. Roberta even earned herself a 'Hole in One' on one course. She was on several leagues and enjoyed spending time with her friends in the fresh air and sunshine on the beautiful greens.
Roberta's greatest joy in life were her two grandchildren – Jack and Mary. She moved closer to her daughter as soon as her first grandchild was born. She helped babysit, care for and love her grandchildren and often said – I should have been a grandmother first. Rain, or shine she showed up front and center for every baseball game/tournament, horse show, birthday party, graduation – she never missed an event. You'd often find her clapping and cheering the loudest from the stands.
Roberta loved being a Snowbird. She was able to enjoy the beauty of Michigan in the summers and fall and the winters in Florida. Roberta finished out her mission in life in the Sunshine State surrounded with love and warmth, but in true form went out fighting like the strong, stubborn sassy lady she was in life. She will truly be missed, but her family takes great comfort knowing she is finally at peace.
Visitation for Roberta will be on Friday, June 7, 2024 from 2-8 p.m. with a 7 p.m. Rosary at the Wasik Funeral Home, 35259 23 Mile Rd. New Baltimore. A Funeral Mass will be on Saturday, June 8, 2024, she will lie instate at 9:30 a.m. until a 10:00 a.m. Funeral Mass at St. Mary Queen of Creation Church, 50931 Maria, New Baltimore.
