Roberto Gonzalez Obituary

Published by Legacy on Mar. 4, 2024.
Houston grieves the passing of a cherished member of its community, Roberto "Robert" Gonzalez Jr., who departed on February 27, 2024, at the age of 48.
Born on September 5, 1975, in Houston, Texas, Robert was the second child of Roberto and Ramona Gonzalez. He grew up surrounded by his five siblings and numerous cousins, embracing a childhood filled with the joy of playing with trains, marveling at 18-wheelers, and reveling in outdoor adventures with his extended family.
Among his mother's cherished memories is the image of Robert twirling her around the dance floor at family gatherings. Described by his siblings as generous, compassionate, hardworking, and possessing a boundless heart, Robert took great pride in his role as a truck driver, ensuring the well-being of his family. He was an avid supporter of his hometown teams: the Astros, the Texans, and the Rockets. However, his passion truly ignited during the NBA Finals and NFL Playoffs.
In 2005, Roberto married his soulmate, Diana, relishing moments of shared laughter over lunch, watching humorous TikTok videos, particularly those featuring cats and dogs. They delighted in watching boxing matches, especially those featuring Canelo, as well as indulging in scary movies and Tyler Perry's Madea films. Another beloved pastime was sitting by the railroad tracks, observing the trains' rhythmic passage, or lounging in the backyard while little Roberto swung joyfully as planes descended into Bush Airport from the east.
A treasured family tradition was their annual celebration of the 4th of July at the Kemah Boardwalk, savoring the spectacle of fireworks illuminating the night sky. Robert spared no effort for his children, whether it involved annual trips to the Houston Rodeo, trips to the Zoo, or early pickups from school on Fridays to cherish extra moments with his youngest.
Robert's compassion extended to animals, particularly strays, reflecting his unwavering dedication to providing the best for his family through tireless work and boundless love.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Diana; daughters, Hazel and Alexis; son, Roberto Gonzalez III; parents, Ramona and Roberto; and siblings, Esmeralda, Aime, Edward, Emma, and Luis, along with numerous nieces and nephews.
A visitation for Roberto will be held Thursday, March 7, 2024 from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM at Brookside Funeral Home, 13747 Eastex Freeway, Houston, TX 77039. The talk will occur Thursday, March 7, 2024 from 7:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Brookside Funeral Home. A final viewing will occur Friday, March 8, 2024 from 10:30 AM to 11:15 AM at Brookside Funeral Home. A committal service will occur Friday, March 8, 2024 from 11:30 AM to 12:30 PM at Brookside Funeral Home & Memorial Park.
