Robin Patty Obituary
Obituary published on Legacy.com by Ellis Funeral Home & Cremation Service - Nashville on Jan. 29, 2025.
Robin Patty escaped this mortal realm on 1/5/2025 reminding us all that no one gets out alive. She lived an unusual life but lived it on her own terms. She was born a male in North Carolina, moving to Virginia with her family until 6 years of age and at 17 joined the Army National Guard while a junior in high school. It's thought that she may have done this just to get to play with guns and get someone else to pay for the ammo.
At 18 she moved out of her dad's house in Virginia and in with her mom in North Carolina where she was given a high school diploma as it was the only way that they were going to get rid of her. At 21 she went on active duty in the Army, spending the first four years as an infantryman in the 82nd Airborne where she was deployed to Grenada as part of a follow-on force behind the Rangers. She re-enlisted to be a linguist in military intelligence but soon discovered that while she loved learning a new language, she missed the insanity of living in the woods, being cold and wet, and being with the greatest group of guys that ever lived. As such she volunteered for training to be a Special Forces operator because life in the infantry wasn't quite dangerous enough and found a career path that was even more fun as they paid her to shoot guns, blow things up and live in the great outdoors, all with someone else's money. In 1990 she was deployed with the 5th Special Forces Group to Saudi Arabia to take part in Desert Storm and took great pride in being a small part of something greater than herself. Finally, in 1992 her career came to an end when she discovered that tall trees and hard ground can really hurt and became permanently paralyzed from the waist down due to an 18,000-foot deliberate fall out of an airplane one night, but enjoyed great parking for the rest of her life following the incident. In return for all of this she was awarded numerous ribbons and medals for various honorable acts. Finally at the ripe old age of 53 she decided that she was tired of living life as a guy and went through years of therapy and plenty of surgeries to change her gender. It was a tough choice, but in the end, she decided that it was more fun to spend her money this way than to buy a Porsche.
Looking back there was no better group of morons and mental patients than those that she had the privilege of serving with. She leaves behind a sister, Christine Snider, a brother-in-law, Mike Snider and a nephew, Robbie Snider. She also leaves behind a wonderful but half-crazy dog, Chance, an American Bulldog, pit bull mix. There will not be a funeral, instead Robin has decided to be cremated.
But in all seriousness, in lieu of flowers or other silly gestures she asks that you donate some time or money to a dog in need or a shelter that takes care of these wonderful animals. After all, life with a dog or two as companions makes life truly worth living as they're more human than many humans. She suggests Old Friends Senior Dog Sanctuary located in Mount Juliet, TN.
