Robin Kay (VanMeter) Peer, 65, of Cumberland, died January 16, 2026, at UPMC-Western Maryland. She was surrounded by her children, family and friends during her Honor Walk.
Born March 17, 1960, in Cumberland, she was the daughter of the late Alvin Lee VanMeter, Sr., and Jacqueline Joyce (Buser) Case.
She was also preceded in death by her brother, Alvin "Butch" VanMeter, Jr., and her significant other for 30 years, Rick Rowe.
Robin was a graduate of Frankfort High School. She attended Allegany Community College and earned her CNA certification.
She worked at Cumberland Nursing Home for many years as a Certified Nursing Assistant. Later, she operated R & R Crafts and Gifts.
Robin grew up at Calvary United Methodist Church, where she taught Sunday School, volunteered with the Summer Lunchbox Program, and sang in the choir. More recently, she attended Sharing Life Ministries. In her spare time, Robin enjoyed crocheting, camping, swimming, and going to BINGO with Nancy. Over the years, she has had many cats she deeply loved. Recently, she had her cats, Sassy and Big Boy, by her side.
Robin was a sweet soul, a loving mom and memaw who absolutely loved Jesus.
Survivors include her three children, Tisa Matamoros and Todd Foote, Misty Hagenbuch and husband Dave, and Eric Peer and wife Jen; grandchildren, Matthew Jr., Cameron, Aubriee, Christopher, Giovani, Abby, Alyssa, and Ariel; numerous great grandchildren; sister Linda Welsh; brother James "Jim" VanMeter; former son-in-law, German; and her companion, Doug Sturtz.
Friends will be received at the Upchurch Funeral Home, P.A. Cumberland, on Saturday, January 24, 2026, from 4-6 PM. The service will follow at 6 PM, with Pastors Larry and Susan Remaly officiating.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Greater D.C.-Maryland Chapter for Multiple Sclerosis Society, P.O. Box 91891, Washington, D.C. 20090-1891.
Robin loved helping people. In her final act on earth, she became an organ and tissue donor through the Infinite Legacy Program in Maryland. Many folks will benefit from her gift.
Robin loved her kids overwhelmingly, but Eric was always her favorite.!
