Obituary published on Legacy.com by Best Funeral Services Peoria on Aug. 26, 2024.
Robyn Michel Hammack passed from this life on August 5, 2024. She was born November 3rd 1978 to Robby Gene and Virginia "Gina" Hammack in Durango, Colorado. She was fittingly nicknamed "Robyn Bird" as a toddler, and went on to sing like one. At the young age of nine years old in Farmington NM, she won the leading role of "Little Sara" in the off-Broadway production of "The Ancient Ones" in which she performed for 2 seasons. Along with her mother on piano, she entertained at nursing homes and the like. This, along with growing up in church and school choirs prepared Robyn to win honors at the "Texas All-state Choir" as a mere freshman in Waco Texas. There, she also sang and danced with her award- winning high school's "Show Choir."
Robyn moved back to Farmington after graduation where she attended San Juan College and worked at a medical intake desk for San Juan Regional Medical Center. She continued to perform a wide range of genres in groups that included the popular college ensembles "Country Company" and jazz band. Her operatic ability was evident as soloist for the citywide production of Handel's "Messiah." Along with her sister Christi, and local siblings Nan and Sean Ramsey, she honed her guitar and vocal chops in the acoustic/rock band "Semi-Normal." And, there are wonderful pictures of her "jamming" with her other sister Carol, and brother Jody. Brother Don always said he "played the stereo" and did so better than anyone.
She then moved to Las Vegas, where she and Nan landed a gig singing backup for none other than Leslie Gore. She continued on with the Ramsey siblings in the hard rock band "Sensory Overload." This, while adding to her impressive repertoire such as winning $5000 for 1st place at a prestigious Wayne Brady talent contest.
Upon moving to Phoenix, where she spent her remaining years, she still found ways to sing and play. This included recording some wonderful renditions of originals and covers, and she was sought after to provide vocals for others. She wrote some very beautiful songs.
When not performing, Robyn sold insurance and had various other jobs. She especially excelled as a corporate leasing agent for many years, where she was often tapped on to demonstrate her skills for company training purposes. She was eventually able to buy a house in the area.
Robyn was preceded in death by her parents Robby Gene Hammack and Virginia Ann "Gina" Hammack. She is survived by sisters Christi Bradshaw (Darrell) and Carol Taulbee (Charles), brothers Jody Whitney (Cathy) and Don Whitney, Uncle Kurt, and Aunt Sharon Vance and numerous nieces and nephews.
Robyn had many pets that she loved "to the moon" and she would have loved any donations to go to the Humane Society.
This world is minus a gentle, sensitive and kind soul. but those who knew her will agree she is fitting right into that heavenly choir.
There will be a private family service at a later date.
