Roderick B. Leezer, 77, Rockford, passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, September 25, 2025. He was born in Rockford on April 7, 1948, the son of Rod and Beverly (Greenberg) Leezer. Rod proudly served in the Marine Corps Reserves before earning his bachelor’s degree in Business from Northern Illinois University in 1972. On February 2, 1974, he married the love of his life, Roxanne Morgan, beginning a devoted partnership of 51 years.
Rod’s work life was split into two careers he loved equally. He first made his mark in local television as an Account Executive and later Sales Manager at WTVO. Then, at the age of 43, he passed his Series 7 exam and became a Financial Advisor. Helping people manage their money and plan for the future gave him great joy—especially since so many of his clients became close friends along the way. He retired from RBC Wealth Management in 2014. A natural salesman with a big personality, Rod had a way of walking into any room and instantly making connections. Friends knew him best as “Senator,” a nickname that perfectly fit his ability to bring people together.
Retirement didn’t slow Rod down. He and Roxanne divided their time between Rockford and Florida, with strong circles of friends in both places. He played first base in two senior softball leagues, was active at Rockford Country Club, and loved staying busy and social. But nothing brought him more happiness than being “Dad” and “Grandpa.” Rod was deeply involved in his daughter Erica’s life and adored his granddaughters, Lexi and Lina. Whether he was babysitting, going to their activities, or just spending time together, his love and presence were constant.
Rod is survived by his loving wife, Roxanne; his daughter, Erica (Eduardo Bravo) Leezer; his granddaughters, Lexi and Lina; his siblings, David Leezer, Barb (Ron) Jacobson and Rick (Rhonda) Leezer; several nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his parents and his sister-in-law, Jeanne Leezer.
Funeral services will be held at 11 A.M. on Tuesday, September 30, 2025, at Fitzgerald Funeral Home and Crematory, Mulford Chapel, 1860 S. Mulford Rd. Rockford with Reverend Bobby Sheets officiating.
