Rodica Gonzalez Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Woodlawn Funeral Home & Garden of Memories on Feb. 9, 2026.
Rodica, a devoted mother, beloved sister, and cherished aunt, passed away on February 8th 2026 at the age of 59. Her passing leaves a profound loss for her family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing her.

Born on September 21st 1966 in Bucharest, Romania, Rodica lived a life distinguished by grace, dedication, and service to both her family and her music. During her youth she attended George Enescu Music School, followed by the prestigious Bucharest Conservatory and later graduated with a master's degree from Rice University Shepard School of Music. She was a loving and devoted mother, whose guidance, strength, and unwavering support shaped the life of Matthew. As a sister, she was loyal and caring, inseparable from Mihaela, both in their family life and musical careers. As an aunt, she took great pride in her nephews and niece, offering them encouragement, wisdom, and affection.

Rodica was an accomplished violinist and a proud member of the Houston Symphony, where she dedicated 36 years to musical excellence. Her artistry, discipline, and passion for music enriched countless performances and touched the lives of audiences and fellow musicians alike. Music was not only her profession but also a defining expression of her spirit.

She was admired for her integrity, strength, and generosity of heart. Whether through her music or her personal relationships, she brought beauty, warmth, and meaning into the lives of others.

She is survived by her son Matthew, her husband Robert, her sister Mihaela, her father Niculae, her brother in law Ovidiu and her beloved niece Simone and nephews Robert and Alex, along with extended family and friends who will forever treasure her memory. She was preceded in death by her mother, Elena.

A service celebrating her life will be held on Wednesday, February 11th 2026 at Woodlawn Funeral Home (1101 Antoine Dr. Houston TX 77055) at 2pm with a viewing on Tuesday, February 10th also at Woodlawn Funeral Home from 4-8pm.

Though she is gone from our sight, Rodica's love, lessons, and legacy will remain with us always.

I was so sorry to hear this news, and regret that I was unable to attend Rodica´s service. I did not know her well, but I know the Gonzalez family *very* well, and know that she was an extraordinary musician and human being.
Love to all at this time...

I remember how June Holly, who led Houston Metropolitan Ministries when the sisters arrived here, cherished and admired Rodica´s and Mihaels´s passion for music and their self discipline and determination. Many other women leaders admired them too. As an immigrant seeking guidance and opportunity, Rodica fulfilled June´s hopes, and we will all be a richer community because of her legacy.
