Rodney E. Gray, of 100 Strawberry Court, Fitzgerald, Georgia, died at Dorminy Medical Center on June 16, 2025. Born on May 21, 1966, in Irwin County, Rodney was 59 years old.
He was the beloved son of Roger and Myra Revels Gray of Holt, Georgia, and a lifelong resident of South Georgia. Rodney graduated from Irwin County High School with the Class of 1984 and went on to attend East Central Technical College.
Rodney dedicated much of his career to caring for others. He worked as a nurse's aide in several local nursing homes and served individuals with special needs at Sunny Dale Training Center. During his time at Sunny Dale, he proudly served as the local coordinator for Irwin County's Special Olympics program and had the honor of attending The Special Olympics International World Games in Minneapolis-a highlight of his career and a testament to his compassionate spirit. He later worked at Deep South Beverage Company until his health no longer allowed him to continue.
Rodney also had a love for the outdoors and took great pride in maintaining one of Fitzgerald's most beautifully manicured and well-kept lawns. His dedication, strong work ethic, and attention to detail were evident in all that he did.
In addition to his parents, Rodney is survived by his siblings: Rondy Gray (Wendy) of Irwin County; Kay Gray Davis (Joe Rowe) of Ben Hill County; and Roger Chad Gray (Mathew Sanchez) of Coffee County. He also leaves behind his cherished fur baby, "Little Gurl Gray," who was his constant companion and comfort. Rodney is further survived by his dear cousin Charlotte Flor (Francisco) and lifelong friends Noah Griffin and Robert Benson.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Myron Gray; his paternal grandparents, John W. and Annie Purvis Gray; and his maternal grandparents, N.E. and Sadie Land Revels.
Rodney will be remembered for his quiet strength, gentle heart, and unwavering love for his family, friends, and community. His legacy of kindness, service, and resilience will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
A private cremation will be handled by Reflections in Tifton, Georgia. Rodney's final resting place will be at Mystic Baptist Church Cemetery in Mystic, Georgia. In accordance with his wishes, no formal funeral service will be held. A private celebration of life will be held at a later date.
Memorial donations may be made in his honor to the Ben Hill Humane Society, 106 Lions Park Road, Fitzgerald, GA 31750.
