Rodney Howard Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Lee-Ramsay - Gladwin Chapel on Mar. 2, 2026.
Rodney Dean Howard, known affectionately to friends and family as Rod, passed away peacefully on February 27, 2026, in Gladwin, Michigan. Born on January 30, 1959, in Bay City, Michigan, Rod's life was marked by his unwavering kindness, infectious humor, and the love he shared with those around him. His presence was a source of joy and comfort to all who were lucky enough to know him.

Rod's journey began as the cherished son of his late parents Ralph & Donna (McKinnon) Howard. He leaves behind a legacy of love and laughter with his devoted sister, Roxanne (Jeremy) Commire, and his doting nieces and nephews, Abby (Jeff) Dodge, Ashley (Kevin) Carrier, and Alyssa Commire. His great-nieces and nephews, Lilliahna, LaRylah, Cash, and Carter, will miss the warmth and joy he brought into their lives. He was predeceased by his two brothers. Rick and Ryan Howard.

A skilled mechanic by trade, Rod dedicated over fifteen years to logging before an auto accident led him to retire. His work was not just a job but a testament to his strength and connection to the earth and community. Rod's hands were rarely still, always ready to fix what was broken or to lend a hand where needed, earning him the reputation of being the family's go-to handyman.

Rod's love for the outdoors was evident in his passion for riding his quad, an activity that brought him immense pleasure and freedom. He was also a keen card player, delighted in the camaraderie and friendly competition that came with every game. Above all, the time he spent with his family was what he cherished most. Rod was the heart of every family gathering, known for his quick wit and the ability to spin a yarn, making him the beloved bullshitter who could always be counted on for a good laugh.

His love extended beyond words; Rod was the embodiment of a loving soul, always there to help anyone in need without hesitation or expectation of return. His funny anecdotes and the twinkle in his eye will be deeply missed, but the memories of his loving spirit will continue to bring smiles to the faces of those who knew him.

A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, March 14, 2026, at 2 pm, from the Bentley Township Hall in Estey with Pastor Reed Schroer presiding. Friends may visit from 1 pm until time of service. Following the services there will be more time for sharing.
