Rodney Lyle Palmer passed away unexpectedly on November 15, 2025, at age 62. He left us while doing what he loved most - fishing in the great outdoors.
Born on February 24, 1963, Rodney was the son of the late Neil Palmer and Edna Palmer, 87, of Maggie Valley. He was a proud son, a devoted husband, and a deeply loving father. Rodney never met a stranger. No matter where he went, he always seemed to run into someone he knew, and he could talk with anyone for hours. His cheerfulness and genuine kindness left a lasting impression on those who met him.
Whether standing in a trout stream, bass fishing at the lake, hiking into Hazel Creek, or deer hunting in the woods, some of his happiest days were spent outdoors alongside his family and closest friends. Rodney found joy in every moment outside, and he passed this love on to his children, creating memories they will cherish and share forever.
Above all, Rodney was an incredible husband and father. He adored his wife, Robin Rogers Palmer, and cherished their life together. He was a supportive and loving dad who was always the first to offer a helping hand, a shoulder to cry on, a piece of advice, or a good laugh. He was one of the strongest, kindest, and most compassionate men. His greatest pride and joy was his family - Rodney's love for his family shone in everything he did.
Rodney is survived by his wife of 28 years, Robin, and his four children - Robert "Robby" Neil Palmer, Luke Daniel Palmer (Cheyanne King), Annie Rebecca Palmer (Jared "Jerry" Gibson), and Robin "Grace" Palmer (Simon Hibbler). He is also survived by his mother, Edna Palmer, and sister, Melissa Burrell (David Burrell). Additionally, Rodney leaves behind many cousins and close friends who feel like family.
The Palmer family would like to extend their sincerest gratitude to all the first responders for the care and respect they provided during this trying time.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date with close family and friends.
The care of Rodney Palmer has been entrusted to Smoky Mountain Funeral Home of Maggie Valley.
Smoky Mountain Cremations and Funeral Service of Maggie Valley is caring for the family and the online register is available at www.smokymountaincremations.com.
