In loving remembrance, we announce the passing of Rodrigo "Roddy" Parra. He was a devoted husband, a proud father, and a loving grandfather. He passed away on August 19th 2025, at the age of 88.
He was born on November 24th, 1936 in Douglas, Arizona. While attending Riverside Poly High School, he competed at a state level in both cross country and track and field, winning first place in 1952 for the Citrus Belt League. During high school, he worked many jobs, earning money and building his work ethic. In his senior year he met the love of his life Celia, when he returned to Douglas for his grandfather's funeral. After high school he enlisted in the United States Air Force, serving as a skilled jet mechanic for 4 years. During these years of service he developed mechanical skills that remained of great interest to him for the rest of his life.
After the Air Force, Roddy settled down in Riverside, California. He had a long career as a skilled mason, specializing in brick masonry. Roddy was a member of the International Union of Bricklayers and Allied Craftworkers Local 4 for 65 years. He brought his passion for masonry home with him, building fireplaces, patios, and many other beautiful structures for his family and friends to enjoy. His beautiful work remains with us today, and serves as a testament to his artistry. After retiring, he worked at both the Queen of Angels Church and School, helping to maintain the grounds.
Rodrigo is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Celia Parra. His children, Yvonne Parra, Ronnie Parra, Patricia Smith, and her husband Randey Smith. As well as his grandchildren, Grayson and Brennon Smith. He deeply loved his grandchildren, and was a very important and present part of their lives. His grandchildren lovingly called him "Tata", which would leave him with a warm and happy smile.
Rodrigo is preceded in death by his mother, Monica Parra, father, Salvador Parra, and brothers, Salvador Parra Jr. and Raymond Parra.
Rodrigo will be remembered as a hardworking man who provided for his family. He was strong and dependable with a kind heart. He leaves behind a grieving family who will continue to carry his lessons of hard work and love with them.
