Rogelio Zárate, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and brother, passed away peacefully in his sleep surrounded by his family on June 11, 2025, at the age of 81. Born on April 12, 1944, in Mazatlán, Sinaloa, Rogelio grew up in the vibrant coastal town of Ensenada, Baja California, where his passion for music and zest for life took root.
In 1971, Los Angeles, CA, Rogelio married his soulmate, Rosa Pacheco of Peñasco, NM. Together, they raised two beautiful children, David and Yvette. In 1979, Rogelio relocated his family to Peñasco, where he created a warm and beautiful home, remaining there until his final day. Known for his love of singing and playing the guitar, Rogelio’s music filled the lives of those around him with joy and warmth, leaving a lasting legacy of melody and love.
Rogelio was preceded in death by his parents David Zárate and Jovita García Yañez; sister Maria T. Mendez; brothers Enrique Rios Garcia, Diego Rios Garcia and David Zárate Loperena; in-laws Frank and Beatrice Pacheco; brothers-in-law Floyd Pacheco, Mike and Ernestine Pacheco, Lorraine Pacheco; nephews Floyd Pacheco Jr., Patrick Montoya and Eric Pacheco; and grandniece, baby Julieta Escalante.
Rogelio is survived by his devoted wife, Rosa Zárate; his son, David Zárate, and granddaughters, Caydance and Raelyn Zárate; and his daughter, Yvette Zárate. He is also survived by his beloved sisters, Guadalupe Andrade Garcia (Sergio Escalante), Dolores Andrade Garcia (“Beto” Escalante), and Lilia Rios Garcia, all of Ensenada, Baja California, along with numerous nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephews who will forever hold him dear.
Additionally, he leaves behind his beloved in-laws, Ruth Montoya, Ercilia (Juan) Martínez, Joe Pacheco, and Luis (Hazel) Pacheco, who will cherish his memory.
Rogelio’s infectious spirit, kind heart, and love for music will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. His memory will be treasured forever by his family and friend
A Rosary will begin at 10:30 am, with Mass to follow at 11:00 am on Saturday, July 5, 2025, at St Anthony's Parish in Penasco, NM. Burial will follow at Rio Lucio Cemetery. People are invited to join us for a reception at the Penasco Community Center after the burial
