Roger Graves Allen, 69, of Smiths Station, AL died peaceful on Thursday, July 10, 2025, while at Columbus Hospice House, Columbus, GA with his family by his side.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 AM (EST) on Saturday, July 19, 2025, in the Chapel of Vance Brooks Funeral Home, Phenix City, AL with Rev. Bobby John Stevens officiating. A private interment will be in Lakeview Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends on Saturday from 10:00 AM until the funeral hour at the funeral home.
Mr. Allen was born December 31, 1955, in Albany, GA, son of the late Grady Allen and Margaret Graves Allen. He was a long-haul truck driver for many years. Mr. Allen enjoyed seeing the country and just being on the open road. Later in life he came off the road and worked local routes. His latest job was with Stevens Trucking where he drove a dump truck.
Mr. Allen was also a “jack-of-all trades” and he really enjoyed working with wood. He was also a HAM radio operator known as “Saddle Tramp”. Mr. Allen also followed NASCAR racing. In his spare time, he earned his private pilots license and his captain’s license for sail boats.
Survivors include his daughter, Savannah Rae Allen (Thomas Warren), St. Louis, MO and a daughter from a former marriage, Jessica Cardin, Phenix City, AL; his former wife and caregiver, Peggy Allen, Columbus, GA; grandchildren, other family members and friends.
