Roger Lee Armstrong

Roger Lee Armstrong, a cherished husband, father, and grandfather residing in Katy, TX, passed away peacefully at his home on September 1, 2025, at the age of 77.

Roger was born in Port Arthur, TX and raised in Bridge City, TX where he enjoyed his childhood in the sun and where his love for nature developed. Roger attended Bridge City High School, he was on the track team and received awards for his excelled skills in engineering class. Soon after graduating high school, he met his beautiful bride Ellen Blackwell. They were married on May 1, 1967 in Henderson, NC. He was drafted for the Vietnam War and would serve his country for two years in the Army.

Roger was a proud and devoted worker in all aspects of his life, especially when it came to his career. He was an employee of the City of Houston, Walter P. Moore, and lastly Traffic Engineers Inc. - where his dream of becoming President came true. Roger was a fi rm believer in giving others the opportunity to grow and better themselves, pushing them to reach their goals, and helping them truly succeed in life.

Roger was a devoted follower of Jesus with unwavering faith. He and his family were members of Hibbard Baptist Church, First Baptist Galena Park (where he became an ordained deacon), South Main Baptist, and lastly his home church Kingsland Baptist. He greatly enjoyed his time at Kingsland Baptist, where he warmly greeted every guest, celebrated his 50th Anniversary with Ellen, and faithfully worshiped Jesus from his favorite seat every Sunday. Roger always found ways to show the love of Jesus: through prayers, sharing the gospel, the way he loved others well, or running a Sunday school class every Christmas Eve for 55 years filled with 4 generations of close friends.

Roger was a funny, joyful, sometimes grumpy, sarcastic, stubborn man. A good "Har-Har" was his favorite-he'd even make you the punchline, but always in a way that brought everyone together. His silly sayings always caused one of two reactions: shocked bugged-eyes or lots and lots of laughter. He enjoyed gardening, sitting on the back porch reading his Bible and drinking coffee, and watching College football: Hook'em! Roger enjoyed vacationing in Concan, TX and Galveston, TX with his family, where he enjoyed long walks along the Frio River and the beach, playing and counting cards during family card games, and taking his grandkids on adventures. Roger also loved cooking for his family and loved ones, especially his famous gumbo.

Roger is preceded in death by his parents Wilfred and Rosalie Armstrong, and by his brothers Michael Armstrong and Don Armstrong. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Ellen Blackwell, his daughters Robin Armstrong and Rhonda A. Trevino, favorite son-in-law Mario Trevino, and godson Kelvin L. Graves Jr.

Grandchildren Abigail Armstrong, Micah Trevino, and Noah Trevino. Sister Martha Hammond and Sister-in-law Judy Kaiser. All his nieces, nephews, and cousins.

A Celebration of Life will be held Monday, September 8, 2025 at Kingsland Baptist Church. The visitation will be held at 9 AM, funeral at 10 AM, and burial immediately following at Katy Magnolia Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Missions Ministry at Kingsland Baptist Church.
