Funeral Services for Roger Baker age 94 of Lincoln, Nebraska formerly of Neligh, Nebraska will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, February 14, 2024 at Grace Lutheran Church in Neligh with Pastor Norlyn Bartens, officiating. Burial will be in Laurel Hill Cemetery with Military Rites conducted by Neligh American Legion Post #172 and VFW #5287. Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, February 13, 2024 at Beyer Snider Memorial Funeral Home in Neligh, Nebraska. Roger passed away on February 8, 2024 in Lincoln, NE. Roger Vance Baker, of Lincoln and Neligh, passed away on Thursday, February 8, 2024, at the age of 94. He was born on January 17, 1930, in Elgin, NE. Roger graduated from Neligh High School in 1948 and attended Wayne State College before enlisting in the U.S. Air Force in 1951. On May 27, 1952, he married his high school sweetheart, Joan P. Loewe, who joined him as he served in the Air Force until his discharge in 1955. They then returned to Neligh where he was a successful farmer and cattle feeder for over thirty-eight years. Roger was a Northrup King seed dealer and distributor, and an insurance agent for Antelope Mutual while he farmed. He was a member of the Neligh American Legion. After retiring he also served as a board member on the Neligh Cemetery Board.
Roger’s loves in life were his wife, Joan, music, music, music, his sons, granddaughters and great granddaughters. He enjoyed playing tenor saxophone in dance bands after high school, then entertained friends and family singing his favorite songs while playing the ukelele for most of his life. He also enjoyed golfing with his friends and the Antelope County Club.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and beloved son, Gregory Baker. Brothers, Lyle Baker, Merle Baker, and Everett Baker. Sister, Shirley Marler.
He is survived by his wife, Joan, son Dana (Pam), two granddaughters, Erin Chambers (Eric), Kelsey Lorimer (Joshua), and two great granddaughters, Diana Lorimer and Frances “Frankie” Lorimer. Larry (Carolyn) Baker.
Live life to the fullest. Love as often as you can. Regret nothing. Eat hearty. Laugh often. Plant flowers. And don’t forget to dance.
