Roger C. Bird, 90, of Hamilton, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, October 28, 2025, at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital,
Hamilton, NJ. His family is comforted in knowing that he is with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
Born in
Hamilton, NJ he lived in the Trenton area most of his life before retiring to South Carolina with his wife Peggy, later returning to Hamilton.
He was a graduate of Hamilton High School West and a proud US Army Veteran, having served his country as a Chaplain's Assistant during the Korean War. As part of his service in Germany he was awarded the Army of Occupation Medal. He was also awarded the Army Good Conduct Medal and the National Defense Service Medal. Following his service, he worked in clothing and jewelry sales at F.W. Donnelly's in Trenton, Hamilton Jewelers, and DiIorio's Men's Store in Pennington. He later worked for the Hamilton Township School District as a custodian before retiring.
Roger came to know the Lord while in the Army and was a man of Christian faith. He had a natural curiosity and was always looking to learn. He was a sports fan and an avid Philadelphia Phillies fan, often telling stories of going to Shibe Park to watch games in his youth. He also loved to ski and play golf.
He is predeceased by his parents, Howard R. and Ruth (Caffrey) Bird, and his beloved wife of over 30 years, Peggy Ann Bird; brother Howard Bird, sisters Edith Gile, Ruth Steinert and Treva Hill, and stepchildren Debbie Minch and Judi Monacchio.
He is survived by his children: Robin (Mark) Buckmaster of Idaho, Allison Bird (Diane Nadler) of New York, Michelle Bird (David Frye) of New York, Jason (Oukie) Bird of Evesham, NJ; stepchildren Wanda Lovett of
Hamilton, NJ and Sandy (Harby) Williams of Abbeville, SC; grandchildren Erica (Mark) Andrews, Austin Bird, Erin Byars, Carlie Brooks, Joshua Lovett, Jennifer Rice, Kelly Minch and Jamie Minch, as well as eight great grandchildren and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Visitation for family and friends will be held on Monday, November 10, 2025, from 10 am to 11 am at the Buklad-Merlino Yardville Memorial Home, 30 Yardville-Allentown Road,
Yardville, NJ, with Funeral services following at 11 am.
Burial will follow in the Brigidiar General William C. Doyle Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 350 Province Line Road,
Wrightstown, NJ 08562.
Due to cemetery restrictions, in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Roger's memory to First Creek Baptist Church, 9511 Abbeville Hwy,
Iva, SC 29655.
