Roger Lynn Briggs, of Jeromesville, passed away on October 9, 2025. He was 81 years old.
Roger was born on November 23, 1943, to Clarence and Arlene (Eberhart) in Shreve, Ohio. He was the middle of seven children.
He proudly served his country as a member of the United States Air Force. His dedication to service and community remained a constant throughout his life. On June 11, 1965, he married Judy Lee Newman in Blachleysville, Ohio.
Roger worked for over 40 years in construction, with a majority of his time at Lockhart Construction. If you ever worked with Roger, you surely wouldn't forget. He was one of the hardest workers you would ever meet and passed that trait down to his children and grandchildren. He was also a dedicated member of Jeromesville American Legion Post 749.
Roger had a spirited personality and a unique sense of humor that left an impression on everyone he met. He found joy in the simple pleasures of life-raising hogs with care and dedication, keeping his yard meticulously mowed, burning off hot afternoons sitting in the gazebo, and occasionally stirring up mischief in ways only he could-especially when it came to Judy. His work for the day was complete once he got a "Dammit Roger" from her. A phrase fondly remembered by those who knew Roger & Judy best.
Roger is survived by his wife, Judy. Together, they built a family that brought them great joy and pride. He leaves behind three children: Tina (Joseph) Massie of Ashland; Roger (Tonja) Briggs of Dallas, Georgia; and Pamela (Jerry) Summerfield of Jeromesville. His legacy continues through his eight grandchildren: Tara Painter (Jeremy Brant), Kyle (Cassie) Kitts, Cody (Ashleigh) Summerfield, Kaylea (Sean) Cohran, Alexis Daye, Koryna (Jonathan) Bomar, Luke (Adrianna) Summerfield, and Bryar Massie. Roger was also blessed with thirteen great-grandchildren who brought light and laughter into his later years. His devoted siblings, Jean Hall, Richard Briggs, and Elaine Forbes, have always been a pillar of strength and support.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Arlene Briggs; siblings Dean Briggs, Barbara Briggs, and Norman Briggs.
His presence will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege to know him. May his memory bring comfort to those who loved him and continue to inspire stories for generations to come.
There will be no services or calling hours per Roger's request. There will be a Celebration of Life at a later date. Memorial contributions can be made to Jeromesville American Legion Post 749.
