Roger James Broussard

Roger James Broussard, 73, passed away on November 1, 2023, in the comfort of his home and surrounded by his family.
Roger was born on June 6, 1950, in New Iberia to the late Eula and V.J. "Bruce" Broussard. He grew up in Jeanerette and attended Jeanerette High School. After graduating in 1968, he joined the Navy and proudly served as a personnel man for 4 years. It was during his time in the service that he met Laura "Mickey" Cruse who was also serving in the Navy. The two fell in love and were married, celebrating their 50th anniversary in April of 2023.
Along with Mickey, Roger also fell in love with photography while in the Navy and after returning to Jeanerette, Roger and Mickey created Roger Broussard Photography which has helped preserve memories for over 45 years and brought joy to generations of children, many of whom knew Roger simply as Donald Duck because of his singular talent for making them smile by talking like the famous character.
Roger will be remembered fondly as a devoted husband to Mickey, a loving father to their daughter Shelly, and their son Scott and his wife, Allison, and Poppi to Scott and Allison's children Taylor, Camryn, Jake and Ashlyn. He is survived by his brothers, Steve Broussard and wife, Barbara) and Tommy Broussard as well as numerous friends and family members. Along with the joy his work gave him, he enjoyed fishing (though not always catching) and sharing stories and laughs with his friends and family.
The family would like to thank Drs. Eric Thomassee, Stephen Boudreaux, Shivakanth Burugu, Moses Kitakule, and Brent Rochon as well as the caring nurses and therapists with Acadiana Home Health, Acadiana Palliative Care, and Heart of Hospice, and all of the area hospitals that cared for him.
Family and Friends are invited to attend a Memorial Mass, officiated by Father Patrick Broussard, on Monday, November 6, 2023, for 11AM at Our Lady of Prompt Succor Catholic Church, located at 2409 Coteau Rd. in New Iberia, LA 70560.
In lieu of flowers, the family would be honored in having donations made to a Veteran's charity of your choice in memory of Roger.
