He was born December 20, 1972, in Montgomery, West Virginia, the son of Mae Ratliff Burnette and the late Roger Burnette, Sr.
JR was employed in facility maintenance for JMU.
He was formerly a Machinist Mate 3rd class in the US Navy where he served on the USS Concord, USS El Paso, & USS John C. Stennis..
JR was a member of North River Baptist Church, and an avid motorcyclist and outdoorsman who loved to hunt, fish, and make art. He enjoyed animals and loved WV football and Duke and WV basketball. JR was also the youngest quarterback to move up to the "old" Rockbridge Rebels.
He is survived by his wife, Tina Stuples Burnette; children: Ashleigh Burnette and fiancé Stephen Marshall, Roger Clayton Burnette and wife Rachel; brother: Christopher Burnette and wife Stephanie; sister: Yvonne West; aunts and uncles: Nancy Doyle, HT Martin, Keith and Suzie Thompson, Judy Brewer, Mean Jean Lily, Bernice Shifflett, Connie Doyle; many other aunts and uncles on both sides of his family; nieces and nephews: Michael, Rachel, Chad II, Joseph; great nieces and nephews: Collin, Caiden, Karmen, Chad III; cousins: Stephen Martin, Tucker Blake and fiancé Crystal, Kim Shifflett, Tristan, Brittney, Ryleigh, Heidi and Michael Huntley, Stephanie and Heath Huntley; special friends: Mat Acord, Faye Acord, Jason Shifflett, Jerry Hutchinson, Daniel Glazner, Josh Griffin, Jonathan Andrews, Dr Robert Kennedy, Renee Hartless; dogs: Tucker Tennessee, Lillith Clover Blue; and cats: Nala, Possum. Special thanks to his doctors Michele Durland and Gary Cook from the V.A.; the Diabetes Team at Augusta Health; North River Baptist Church Pastor Blair and Deacons and Sister Sarah Britt for their wisdom and help to find the way back to the Lord and his baptism.
He was preceded in death by his parents-in-law: Pam and Tink Stuples; uncles: Russel Shifflett, Butch Doyle, Bob Philpot; aunts: Brenda Martin, Dreama Philpot; and cousins: Shane Doyle, Lauren Shifflett, Kathy Shifflett.
A memorial service will be conducted on a date to be decided at North River Baptist Church with Pastor Blaire officiating.
Memorial contributions may be made to Cat's Cradle in lieu of flowers.
