Roger D. 'Chino' Cerda, a cherished soul whose heart knew no bounds departed this world on September 28, 2024, at the age of 56. Born on May 10, 1968, in the vibrant city of Chicago, Illinois, Roger's life was a tapestry woven with love, laughter, and unyielding devotion to his family.
Married for many years to his beloved high school sweetheart, Sandra G. 'Baby Doll' Cerda (nee Colunga), Roger embodied the essence of an avid family man. He was not just a husband; he was a partner in every sense of the word, sharing a life rich with memories that spoke of warmth, affection, and a profound bond. His legacy lives on through their childrenJeramiah (Rachel), Victor (Jackie), Rose (Ismael Diaz), Samantha (Jesse "Niko" Silva), and Johnathan Roger Cerda. Each child carries a piece of his spirit, a testament to the loving guidance he offered them throughout their lives.
Roger's role as a father extended beyond mere affection; he was their hero and a legend in their eyes. He inspired them with his unwavering strength, instilled values that shape their daily lives, and shared lessons cloaked in wisdom. Grandchildren: Olivia Rose, Linus, Ernie, Lucas Rogelio, Sophia, Abel Santino, Trinity, Leticia Paulina, Sandra, Chanel, and Devinaknew him as a source of joy, with stories and adventures that would forever resonate in their young hearts.
Beyond family ties, Roger cherished every moment spent with his faithful canine companion, Bella Cerda, his husky with a spirit as lively as his own. They shared adventures, quiet nights, and the kind of companionship that filled his days with a unique happiness.
Roger's beginnings at St. Michael School, where he served as an altar boy, marked the start of a life characterized by faith and service. He later became a proud advocate for education, ensuring his children learned in environments that nurtured their growth and spirit. This dedication to family and personal endeavor echoed through the lives he touched, creating ripples of positivity in the community.
Roger will be remembered not just for his amiable nature and his notorious 'Baby Doll' tattoo as a symbol of his love for Sandra, but as a man whose laughter could illuminate the darkest rooms and whose kindness left an indelible mark on all who were privileged to know him. His sisters, Deanna, Kathy and Paula along with many nieces and nephews, carry forth memories that are rich and filled with love.
