Roger Dummer, 73 of Alexandria, passed away at his home on Wednesday, January 8, 2025. Funeral services will be held on Friday, January 17, 2025 at Anderson Funeral Home in Alexandria at 11:00 AM. Visitation will start one hour prior to services. Burial will be at Camp Ripley – Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery in Little Falls on Tuesday, January 21, 2025.
Roger Lee Dummer was born on July 6, 1951 in Sioux Falls, South Dakota to Mildred (Bednar) and Ned Dummer. He was one of four children born to the couple who would start out their early life in Parker, South Dakota and relocate to Watertown. Roger graduated from Watertown High School with the class of 1968. He then moved to Canby, Minnesota, where he enlisted in the United States Navy on March 22, 1971. He served on the USS Long Beach and was awarded the National Defense Service Medal. Roger was honorably discharged from the Navy in 1972 and later moved to Aberdeen, South Dakota where he attended Northern State University. During this time, he met Carole Byre, and the couple were married in 1979.
Together, Roger and Carole welcomed four children. The family moved from Aberdeen to Mobridge, and eventually settled in Alexandria, Minnesota in 1992. As his children grew, Roger stayed busy working on bicycles and trains, while working a variety of jobs. He would eventually move and settle in Billings, Montana for eight years before moving back to Alexandria in May of 2024.
Roger will be remembered for his fearless approach to life, his dedication to the Minnesota Vikings and Minnesota Twins, and his gift as an untrained musician and ability to play any instrument by ear. On Wednesday, January 8, 2025 Roger passed away suddenly at his home in Alexandria. Left to cherish his memory are his children: Erik (Carrie) Dummer, Heidi (Brian) Clark, Seth Dummer, Jesse (Aren) Dummer; grandchildren: Zachary (Aliah), Taelor, Paislee, Keaton, Braxton, Jersey, Ethan, Layla, Alexis, Trent, Jack, William, Isaac, Lily, Forest; special friend, Dawn Decker; former-spouse, Carole Byre; siblings: Paul Dummer, Susan (Dean) Aurand, Laurie (Barton) Torbert. He is preceded in death by his parents, Ned and Mildred Dummer.
Anderson Funeral Home in Alexandria is in charge of arrangements for Roger.
