Roger Fortenberry Obituary

Mr. Fortenberry was born in Gray Court to the late Howard Dewitt Fortenberry and Doris Edna South Fortenberry. Roger was a Woodruff native, and avid Clemson fan. He enjoyed fishing, and reading western books.
Surviving in addition to his wife are a daughter, Rebecca Fortenberry Riley (El Talley); granddaughters, Samantha Padgett (Will), Heather Ballengee (Chris Emmons), and step-daughter, Angie Lee; great-grandchildren, Aneilia, Isaiah M., Piper, Brittany, Elijah, Isaiah A. and Rylan; and his siblings, Thomas Fortenberry (Vicki), Brenda Thomas and Michael Fortenberry (Lee).
The family will be at the home of Rebecca Fortenberry Riley, 218 Hunter Road, Woodruff, SC 29388.
A memorial service will be held 4pm Saturday, November 22, 2025 at Fletcher Funeral Service, Woodruff. The family will receive friends an hour prior.
In honor of Roger, memorials may be made to the PotterHouse Food Ministry, PO 117 Jonesvilles SC 29353.

Sending all my condolences he was like a Papa I never had and told me when we first met that I could call him Papa and he treated me like a grandson with an open heart as big as this world. He's truly been a God send bc his heart went out to helping anyone he could. I can remember the first day he took me to work at my new job as a grill cook he looked at me and said I'll only eat there if I was gonna be the one cooking his food and every morning from that day on we had breakfast together before I'd start work, and he'd laugh the whole time as he told me amazing fishing stories and then as he walked out the door that morning he told me he loved me and just wanted the best for me and to keep my head up and doing a great job.I just hate we never made it to fish on any given Saturday that never came and won't unfortunately. Rest in peace Papa hope you catch the biggest fish along side Jesus as you look down upon your amazing big hearted loving wife and kids and grandkids I love and will miss you so much. Love Richard always.
