Roger Grell Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Viegut Funeral Home on Sep. 30, 2024.
Roger Alan Grell, 72, of Loveland, Colorado, passed away on September 16, 2024, in Fort Collins, Colorado. He was born on February 17, 1952, in Clinton, Iowa, to Carrie Marie and Alfred Carl Grell, and was one of 14 children. After graduating from Clinton High School in 1970, Roger moved to Colorado in the early 1980s with his brothers-Dave, Jim, Steve-and his nephew, Jason. In 1988, while working at a local grocery store, he met Joan Marie, the love of his life, who would become his wife. They moved to Loveland a year later, and in 1991, they welcomed their son, Michael Alan.
Roger, Joan, and Michael enjoyed many years of fun both at home and on road trips, Grand Lake being his favorite place to visit. Roger enjoyed fishing and was an avid sports fan, he loved his Chicago Bears and Cubbies the most. He loved playing golf, especially with his brothers Dave and Steve. Roger and Michael shared a love for tinkering, cars, golf and music, and were fortunate to spend a lot of quality time together as father and son, but also best friends with multiple hobbies. Roger was very proud of his family and the life they had made together.
Roger had quite the diverse career, dabbling in everything from union painting to construction, working in grocery stores, and serving the City of Lakewood and Fort Collins, even spending his final years at CSU in Fort Collins before retiring. He was a jack-of-all-trades with a ton of skills and talents, but always considered "Husband" and "Dad" to be his most important titles. Despite facing numerous health challenges in his later years, he remained resilient, tackling each day with determination, striving to overcome obstacles while learning to accept and adapt to those he couldn't change. No matter what, Roger always managed to find joy in life. He was genuinely kind-hearted and would go out of his way to help others. With a warm smile and a friendly demeanor, he was known for flashing a peace sign as a cheerful send-off, leaving a little bit of positivity wherever he went.
He is survived by his wife Joan, son Mike, & nephew Jason (Kerri). Sisters Linda (Dave) & Jan. Brothers David (Betty), Jim & Steve (Diane), and many, many nieces & nephews.

I'm grateful you were a big part of my childhood, Uncle Rog. You were always generous, kind, and compassionate. I'll always remember our basketball games (Jersey Jones!), watching crummy Sunday afternoon movies, trips back to Iowa (driving straight thru!), discussions & appreciation of music, and the late night poker games that always seem to end in arm-wrestling. Way too many memories to list.... Lastly, thank you for having my back when I was down.
Jason.
