Mr. Roger Lee Hackler, 81 of Union, SC joined his Lord and Savior in Paradise on July 15, 2022. He was born to Walter McKemic and Elzie Lee Bourne Hackler in Galax, VA on Thanksgiving Day in 1940.
Mr. Hackler began his career with Wamsutta Mills at the age of 14. An acquisition by Lowenstein Textiles relocated him to Statesville, NC for several years when Milliken and Co. went on to take over and relocate him to Union, SC in 1974 at the Cedar Hill division where he continued his career until retirement in 2007. Retirement was short lived when the company reached out a few years later and asked for help which turned into him working until July 6, 2022 ending an almost 68 year career without fail. His strong work ethic was matched only by his love for his family, Harley Davidson, and NASCAR. He was an avid biker and enjoyed riding as often as possible having taken his last trip to Bike Week in mid May of 2022 riding over 700 miles. He enjoyed riding the mountains, the dragon, and most of all stopping for ice cream. His trike was one of his most prized possessions. He was spontaneous and adventurous living his life to the absolute fullest.
Being a Daddy to 5, grandfather to 14, great grandfather to 6 is only a portion of the legacy he leaves behind. He spread his gentle kindness and generosity far and wide leaving so many with wonderful memories to carry on.
Left to treasure his life are his eldest son, Grant Hackler & eldest daughter, Sonja Branum and husband Benny and their mother Bennie Sue Potts all of Johnson City, TN as well as his youngest Travis Hackler and wife Misty and his little girl Courtney Sanford and husband Terry along with their mother and his closest confidant Mary Lancaster & husband Dean, all of Union, SC. Preceded in death was his middle son, Kevin Lee Hackler of Kingsport TN and a brother, Howard James Hackler. Of his many grandchildren, he devoted his time to Chloe, Gabriel & Nathaniel Sanford & Carter Hackler. While distance kept them further away his love was carried to Sophia & Mackenzie Higgins and Brandon Hyatt & Lilly Branum.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Monday, July 18, 2022 at Mt. Lebanon Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Melvin Shelton, Rev. Chad Ponder and Rev. Jamie Vaughn who will honor him. Burial will be at Union Memorial Gardens.
Visitation will be held Monday from 1:00 until 2:00 PM at the church prior to the services.
Active pallbearers will be Ernie Jeffries, Alonzo Brannon, O'Tavis Tyler, Steve Bailey, Gerald Gregory and his son, Travis Hackler, will lead them to his final resting place.
Memorials may be made to the St. Jude Children Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN, 38105.
The family will be at the home of his daughter, Courtney and Terry Sanford, 106 County Rd., Ext. Union, SC.
