Roger Brown Henshaw, born on February 2nd, 1932, passed away at home on November 26, 2023 after spending Thanksgiving with family. Roger was the son of Charles Robinson Henshaw and Mildred Brown Henshaw of Templeton.
He lived most of his life in Templeton, growing up on the farm on Henshaw Road. He served in the U.S. Army in Germany in the early 50's. The rest of his life was connected with agriculture including in the Soil Conservation Service, Farmers Home Administration, realtor at United Farm Agency, co-founder of The Kitchen Garden, farm worker at the Walter E. Fernald School and growing strawberries and pumpkins. He was a graduate of Stockbridge School of Agriculture and the University of Massachusetts.
Roger was active in the community. He enjoyed fellowship at the Congregational Church of Phillipston and had been an active member of the First Church of Templeton, including teaching Sunday School. He spent many years in the Lions Club, was a past president, and grew many pumpkins for the children of Templeton.
Roger lost his beloved wife, Lorna (Davis) Henshaw, in 2011, after 54 years of marriage. They raised a family in Templeton Center and supported each other in their ambitions. He faithfully tended to her in years of decline battling with Alzheimer's disease.
Roger is survived by his children and their spouses, Joyce and Leslie Dossett, John and Cynthia Henshaw, Rob and Kelly Henshaw of Templeton, Byron and Yolanda Henshaw of Palmer, Alaska, his grand children Zachary and Samuel Dossett, Jake and his wife Megaly, Mitchell, Josiah, Julia, Arden, Gabriella and Nathaniel Henshaw, his great grandchild Roger Henshaw and close friend Janet Carr. He is also survived by his brother Kirke Henshaw and wife Nancy, sister-in-law Mildred (Ralph) Henshaw and many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by brothers Milton (Priscilla) Henshaw, Ralph Henshaw, and sisters Shirley (George) Barnes and Edna (Arnold) Haley. He enjoyed visits from his family and hearing what they were up to.
The funeral service will be held Tuesday, December 12th at 11 am. at the Phillipston Congregational Church and will be preceded by a visitation at 10 a.m. in the chapel.
A burial will follow at Pine Grove Cemetery in Templeton.
There will be a collation and fellowship at the Phillipston Congregational Church, beginning at about 1pm. All are welcome to attend any and all events.
