Roger Eugene Huffer, age 81, passed away on October 3, 2025, at the Fair Hope Pickering House. Born on June 19, 1944, in Lancaster, Ohio, Roger emerged from humble beginnings tirelessly working from the moment he graduated Bremen High School in 1962. His early days were spent laboring at Anchor for a mere dollar an hour, but these modest beginnings only fueled his drive as he navigated life’s challenges. As a proud self-made man, Roger wore the badge of hard work with honor; he was not merely a dreamer but a doer, embodying the essence of determination.
During his admirable course through life, Roger enlisted in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War, a chapter that highlighted his courage and commitment. Upon his return, he found his niche at Western Electric which eventually became Lucent Technologies, where he eventually retired, leaving behind a legacy of teamwork and dedication.
To those who knew him, Roger was a tapestry woven of laughter, stubborn ambition, and a heart brimming with love for family and friends. He had a uniquely vibrant personality, always ready with stories and infectious laughter that brought everyone together. Family was central to his existence; he cherished every moment spent with them, and his love radiated brightly in the warmth of his relationships.
Roger is survived by his beloved son, Jason Huffer, and two daughters, Jennifer C. Huffer-Milliser and Amy Baker. His legacy continues through his grandchildren, Eric (Hannah) Huffer, Devon Baker, Bret Baker, and Logan Smith, as well as his great-grandchildren, Kellen and Makenna Huffer. The bond he shared with Judy Huffer, the mother of his children, was a testament to the enduring connections he cultivated throughout his life.
As a man of many interests, Roger found joy in working on cars and immersing himself in projects that brought both frustration and fulfillment. He loved the thrill of travel, often making the journey to Cocoa Beach, Florida, where the gentle waves and crisp air became a backdrop to his adventures. Fishing was not only a hobby for him; it was a peaceful escape where he relished nature’s gifts.
Roger was preceded in death by his parents, George Sr. and Mable Huffer, and his brothers, George Lee Jr., Curtis, and Kenny Huffer. Their memories, along with Roge’s indomitable spirit, will echo in the hearts of those left behind.
Family and friends will gather for visitation on Friday, October 10, 2025, at The Frank E. Smith Funeral Home in Lancaster, Ohio, from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM. The funeral service will follow, commencing at 11:00 AM with burial to follow at Grandview Cemetery. In these moments of remembrance, may we hold tight to the laughter, the stories, and the unbreakable bonds Roger fostered throughout his remarkable journey.
