Roger L. Hulbert

Roger L. "Pete" Hulbert, age 80, of Shelby, passed away Tuesday, November 8, 2016 at home. He was born August 21, 1936 in Muskegon, the son of Clifford Hulbert and Luella (Aurich) Hulbert. Pete moved to Shelby at the age of two. He married Bonnie Morrow on September 13, 1958. He was a truck driver for many years. He drove for Herin Brothers and several other companies and also was an owner/operator. His last trucking job was with Bulk Transport of Essexville for ten years. Pete was also a mechanic for Herin Brothers and DeLong Trucking. He was a longtime deacon and leader of children's ministries at New Era Bible Church. Pete received an Associates of Agriculture degree from Michigan State University. He was a member of the John Birch Society and the Tea Party. He is survived by his wife, Bonnie; children, Rebecca Hall of Holland; Jeffrey (Lisa) Hulbert of Sanger, Texas, Kristen Overla of Muskegon and Stephen Hall of New Era; grandchildren, Michel (John) Hall, Margaret Mejia, Johnathan Hulbert, Emily (Scott) Chase, Jacob Overla, Jeremiah Overla, Isaac Overla, Samantha (Clint) Harvey, and Jeffrey Don McCaig; sisters, Jackie Luttrell of Jacksonville, Florida, Barbara Mahan of Montague and Sondra Longnecker of Tulsa, Oklahoma. He was preceded in death by his parents; his sons Richard Morrow and Leslie Hulbert; and his brother, Gordon Clifford Hulbert. Visitation will be held Friday, November 11th, 6-8 pm at Harris Funeral Home in Shelby and at New Era Bible Church on Saturday, November 12th at 1 pm with the funeral to follow at 2 pm with Pastor Mike Deblois, Pastor Bob Sponable and Col. Danny Morrow officiating. Interment will be in Mount Hope Cemetery in Shelby. Memorials in lieu of flowers may be directed to the New Era Bible Church Building Fund, 5308 S. Oceana Drive, New Era, MI 49446.
