Roger Monroe Jeffcoat, age 82 years old, passed away on Wednesday, September 9th after a long-fought battle of complicated health issues.
Roger is survived by his wife, La Juan Jeffcoat, his son, Cory Wade Jeffcoat, of Edinburg; his daughter, Holly Brooke Deshields, and his grandson, Hunt William Deshields, both of Austin; and his stepson, Brent Jones, of Lubbock. Roger is also survived by his two sisters, Pat Knight, of Lubbock; Martha Miller, of Somerville; and an extended family of nieces, nephews, as well as their children and their children’s children.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Monroe and Cordie Jeffcoat, of Lubbock.
Roger entered this world on June 27,1942 in Lubbock, Texas. He grew up in Lubbock and attended Coronado High School. He went on to Texas Tech University and pledged Phi Gamma Delta. He had a life-long career in the auto industry in Lubbock and throughout the Rio Grande Valley.
All who have met Roger know he loved to have a good time. For many years, he enjoyed his afternoons at the local Elks Lodge playing gin with his buddies and he always swore by “hunting camp rules.” His family and friends will always remember him for his keen wit and great sense of humor.
A Celebration of Life service is scheduled for Friday, September 12th at 2 PM at Elks Lodge #1889 in Harlingen, Texas.
The family would like to extend its sincerest thank you to the Gentiva Hospice Team, especially Dora Gonzalez and Brian Smith. These individuals loved Roger and were instrumental in his daily care, and our family cannot think of a more special group of people to be surrounded by during the hardest last days of this journey.
Flowers can be sent to the Elks Lodge #1889 (1426 S. Commerce Street, Harlingen, Texas, 78550) or memorial contributions can be made to St. Jude’s’s Children Research Hospital at www.stjude.org.
