Roger Edwin Koehler, son of Conrad Koehler Sr. and Rose (Kenny) Koehler, was born
on July 30, 1938 in Anthony, Kansas, the second of eight children. Roger attended
Claflin High School where he met the love of his life, Joyce Sauber. After the two
graduated in 1956, Roger enlisted in the U.S. Marines and served at 29 Palms base.
Roger and Joyce were united in marriage on July 11, 1959, at St. Catherine's Catholic
Church in Dubuque, Kansas.
The young couple moved to McPherson, KS in January of 1960, where they were
blessed over the years with eight children, seven girls and one boy. The family were
faithful members of the St. Joseph's Catholic Church. Together, Roger and Joyce
provided guidance to young couples through Engaged Encounter and later loved
volunteering with the church group at Lord's Diner. He loved working the Sunday
pancake breakfasts and annual lamb fries. Roger was a Fourth Degree member of the
Knights of Columbus Council #5222, McPherson; he also served as its District Deputy
for four years. Dedicated to serving his church community, Roger was a member of the
Parish Council, a Eucharistic Minister, Lector, Usher, and a devout participant in the
weekly adorations.
Roger was a serial entrepreneur, finally retiring as the owner-agent and operator of
Koehler Insurance Agency. More importantly, he was proud and grateful for his 48 years
of sobriety, using his experience to sponsor many through their own AA journeys. Many
of these relationships became life-long friendships with people who shared his love of
coffee, donuts, and ice cream. His hobbies included hunting, fishing, and gardening.
Roger was a devout catholic, loving husband, devoted father, doting grandpa, steadfast
brother, uncle, and friend. Nothing brought Roger greater joy than sitting around the
table with loved ones and telling lively stories of time spent with family and friends.
Roger Edwin Koehler of McPherson, KS passed peacefully surrounded by his children
the morning of April 21, 2025.
Roger is survived by his children, DeAnn Koehler and her wife Lisa Lowe, of Austin,
Texas; Kevin Koehler and his wife Cindy, of El Dorado, Kansas; Jamie Larson and her
husband Les, of McPherson, Kansas; Terri Larson and her husband Milo, of
McPherson, Kansas; Tammy Schrag and her husband Andy, of Kingman, Kansas, Julie
Allen and her husband David, of Shawnee, Kansas; Joni Fincham and her husband
Derek, of Houston, Texas; and Jill Koehler and her wife Giselle Scott, of Lawrence,
Kansas; 14 grandchildren, Kyle Koehler, Jarin Koehler, Amber Larson, Landon Larson,

great-granddaughters and one on the way; his siblings, Karen Tatro, Conrad Koehler Jr.,
Kathy Dark, and Tim Koehler; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Roger was preceded in death by his wife Joyce; his parents; sisters Florence Walsh and
Linda Batchman; and a brother Raymond Koehler.
A visitation will be held 5-7pm on Thursday, April 24, 2025 at St. Joseph Catholic
