Roger R. L'Heureux
Formerly of Biddeford
Roger R. L'Heureux, 96, of Saco and formerly of Biddeford, passed away on Tuesday, October 1, 2024 at Gosnell Memorial Hospice House. He was the beloved husband of 63 years of the late Noella (Murphy) L'Heureux who passed in 2016.
He was born in Biddeford on June 16, 1928, the 13th child of Ernest and Albertine (Perras) L'Heureux.
In 1941, at the age of 13, Roger showed his heroism by rescuing two boys who fell out of a boat in the Saco River.
He graduated from St. Louis High School and enlisted in the United States Air Force at the age of 19. He served four years of active duty in Korea. On September 6, 1952, he married Noella Murphy at St. Joseph's Church in Biddeford. The young couple started their family and raised their loving son Raymond together.
After the service, Roger worked as a carpenter and joined Air Force Reserves. In 1956, Roger began another chapter in life working for the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard, a career that spanned for 28 years.
Roger had many interesting hobbies which included reading, woodworking, genealogy and following the Boston Red Sox. He also volunteered for St. Andre's Church in Biddeford with his wife Noella throughout the years. Roger's biggest pleasures were spending time with his grandchildren, attending dance recitals, sporting events and school activities.
He was predeceased by his wife Noella, 14 siblings, which included seven brothers Fernand, Renald, Rene, Ralph, Leopold, Dennis and Normand and eight sisters Yvette L'Heureux, Germaine Collard, Anita Fleurent, Rena Gilpatrick, Fernande Martin, Claire Mattarazzo and Rachel Dee.
A devoted husband, father and pepere, he leaves behind his son Raymond L'Heureux and wife Barbara, granddaughter Mae L'Heureux and partner Robert Dorr and grandson Brian L'Heureux. He is also survived by one brother Conrad L'Heureux and many nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11AM Thursday, October 3, 2024, at Most Holy Trinity Church in Saco. Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery in Biddeford. To view Roger's memorial page or leave an online condolence, please visit www.cotefuneralhome.com
