Roger L. Lyle, Sr., Appleton, age 81, died Tuesday, January 20, 2026. He was born in Detroit on May 2, 1944, to the late R. Lee and Fernita (Cline) Lyle. Roger grew up in the Detroit area and graduated from Mumford High School, Class of 1963. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy and was stationed on the USS ARNEB as an Engineman where he served for four years, earning the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal and National Defense Service Medal. He received an honorable discharge in 1967 and served another two years in the Naval Reserve based out of Bainbridge, MD. After his military service Roger worked numerous mechanical and electrician jobs in NY, PA, CA and NV including a three year tour with KBR Contracting during Operation Iraqi Freedom as a base Fire Warden and mechanic working on military vehicles and equipment. Roger was also a master locksmith. In 2015, Roger retired as a member of California's Carpenter's Union after thirty five years of hard work.

Roger married Patricia (Phillips) Craig in West Hartford, CT on June 22, 1996. He enjoyed bowling, shooting pool, painting diamond art, tinkering, and fixing things for other people. There wasn't a mechanical or electrical problem Roger couldn't fix.

Roger is survived by his children: Roger (Katherine) Lyle, Jr. of Pulteney, NY; Katherine Steinhilber of Walker Valley, NY; Rebecca Lyle of Bloomingburg, NY; and Richard (fiancée Tameka Bernstein) Lyle of Salt Point, NY; step children: Keith (Liz) Craig of Columbia, SC; Kevin Craig of Columbia, SC; Scott (Anne) Shipps of Adams County, WI; and Tori Craig of Washington State; grandchildren: Angel and Randy Steinhilber, Samantha, Matthew, Sarah, Justin, and Jacob Lyle; and great grandchildren: Trisden Steinhilber and Elliott Lyle. He is further survived by step grandchildren and great grandchildren, other relatives, and friends.

In addition to his parents, Roger was preceded in death by his wife Patricia on February 21, 2025; and his siblings: Retta Rousseau, Robert Lyle, and Renee Tulip.

The family will gather in New York State at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to your local SPCA or Veterans Organization.
